The Food Bank Support Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of food distribution services to individuals and families in need. This position involves hands-on tasks such as collecting donations, organizing inventory, preparing food hampers, and engaging with clients in a respectful and compassionate manner. Accountabilities:

Donation Collection & Documentation

  • Pick up food donations from local grocery stores and community partners
  • Accurately weigh and record all incoming donations
  • Maintain detailed documentation of donations, including source, weight, and type

Inventory & Stock Management

  • Sort and shelves donated food items according to food safety guidelines
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or excesses
  • Ensure proper rotation of stock to minimize waste

Food Hamper Preparation & Distribution

  • Assemble food hampers based on dietary needs and family size
  • Hand out hampers to clients in a welcoming and respectful manner
  • Maintain confidentiality and dignity of all clients

Food Rescue Store Operations

  • Set up and organize the Food Rescue Store for client access
  • Staff the store during opening hours, assist clients and maintain daily log of how many clients we were able to serve
  • Ensure the store remains clean, stocked, and organized

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Community and Family Services Manager

Working Conditions:

  • Physical work including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
  • Indoor and outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Valid driver's license and drivers abstract (preferred but not mandatory)

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 50 lbs
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful client service

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $19.85 with a maximum of $23.82.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
