What You Will Do:

As a Managing Consultant, you will lead and manage affordable housing engagements for Guidehouse's state and local government and housing authority clients. This role blends technical leadership, people management, client delivery, and business development support.You will be responsible for delivering highquality client work while mentoring staff and contributing to the growth of the Housing & Community Solutions practice.

Key responsibilities include:

Client Delivery & Technical Leadership

  • Leading affordable housing finance, policy, and program implementation engagements from scoping through delivery
  • Overseeing analysis of LIHTCfinanced (4% and 9%) and other multifamily housing projects, including feasibility, underwriting, and subsidy layering
  • Reviewing and guiding development of project budgets, sources and uses, and financial models prepared by junior staff
  • Serving as a subject matter resource on HUD programs, 24 CFR, QAPs, and public funding sources
  • Managing project due diligence efforts, including review of complex financing and transaction documents, regulatory agreements, and land use materials
  • Ensuring deliverables are clientready, analytically sound, and clearly communicated

Engagement & Team Management

  • Managing project teams, including daytoday staff oversight, task delegation, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Supporting the professional development of Consultants and Senior Consultants through mentorship and onthejob guidance
  • Monitoring project budgets, schedules, and scope to ensure successful delivery
  • Serving as a primary or secondary client point of contact, supporting client relationships and issue resolution

Business Development & Practice Growth

  • Supporting business development efforts, including proposal writing, pricing support, and interview preparation
  • Contributing to the identification of new opportunities with existing and prospective clients
  • Helping shape service offerings, tools, and thought leadership related to affordable housing finance and publicsector housing programs
  • Collaborating with partners and senior leadership to support practice growth and market positioning

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5+ (FIVE) years of experience in affordable housing, housing policy, publicsector consulting, or related fields
  • Demonstrated experience leading or managing affordable housing finance or program implementation engagements
  • Strong technical background in LIHTC, HOME, CDBG, ARPA, or similar public funding structures
  • Experience managing staff and project teams in a consulting or projectbased environment
  • Strong clientfacing skills with experience presenting findings to senior publicsector leadership
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience contributing to proposal development or business development activities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • No sponsorship is available for this position


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Preference will be given to applicants who reside within a 50-mile radius of the Guidehouse office in Sacramento, CA
  • Developing and managing relationships with public agencies and expanding the housing portfolio
  • HOME Compliance Specialist (HCS) or similar certification
  • Experience working directly with PHAs or housing finance agencies
  • Familiarity with housing finance, underwriting, or grants management systems
  • Prior experience supporting or leading multidisciplinary teams
The annual salary range for this position is $113,000.00-$188,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
