Job description
Regional Supports Coordinator
Location: 12308 111 Avenue #200, Edmonton, Alberta
Closing Date: Until Suitable Candidate Found
Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent
Reporting to the Children & Family Services Metis Family Connections Supervisor, the Regional Supports Coordinator is responsible for providing direct support to families while also developing, implementing, and evaluating Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) programming. This role involves researching and compiling FASD information, delivering presentations and workshops, developing culturally appropriate Metis-specific resources, and collaborating with external organizations to strengthen supports and services. The successful candidate will have experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation, along with expertise in event planning and community engagement. Strong writing abilities and exceptional interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, person-centered case management supports, including intake, needs assessment, goal setting, and ongoing service coordination for individuals and families affected by FASD.
- Connect families to appropriate internal and external services, advocate on their behalf, and monitor progress to ensure supports remain responsive to evolving needs.
- Provides support to caregivers, including coordinating and distributing regular caregiver mail-outs.
- Maintain accurate data systems to collect and track both referrals and connections.
- Support the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of FASD Programming.
- Compile up to date research to increase knowledge and awareness about FASD.
- Support the development and ongoing maintenance of policies and practices that align with the requirements established by the Alberta FASD Service Network Program.
- Develop culturally appropriate Metis-specific resources.
- Facilitate and host FASD-related workshops across Alberta.
- Connect with FASD support organizations to ensure Metis children, youth, adults, and families are connected to Metis culture, community, and adequate resources.
- Deliver Metis cultural awareness training to FASD support organizations serving Metis children, youth, adults, and families.
- Network with both internal and external stakeholders to develop and/or maintain partnership opportunities for Metis Albertans accessing supports and services.
- Complete quarterly and final reports, as necessary.
- Attend and participate in meetings and committees as required.
- Participate and represent the Otipemisiwak Metis Government in community engagement and other opportunities.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrated experience in research and data compilation.
- Strong ability in using digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and an ability to effectively produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
- Ability to develop and implement programs, including planning and facilitating community engagements, workshops, and presentations.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Strong ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Ability to build collaborative, positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including clients, industry, service providers, and community.
- Ability to maintain a positive, helpful attitude and be empathetic and non-judgmental when assisting Metis Albertans.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Knowledge and respect for Metis identity, history, language, and culture, with a commitment to supporting Metis cultural revitalization, language preservation, and family wellbeing.
- Knowledge of Metis history, culture, and issues affecting Metis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Metis Government and Metis culture is an asset.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in Social Sciences, Health Sciences, or related field.
- Two (2) years' experience working in the Human Services field.
- Working knowledge of the Child and Youth Enhancement Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Protection of Personal Information Act.
- Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Position will be based in Edmonton.
- Ability to work a regular schedule from Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends as required.
- Some travel within Alberta is a requirement. Additional less frequent out-of-province travel may also occur, with notice.
- Must have a driver's license and an operational vehicle.
- Acceptable attainment and annual maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required.
