Job description

Position Summary:
The Senior Program Director provides operational leadership and strategic support for the design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Brightlane Learning's programs. This role holds direct supervisory responsibility for the Education Directors and is accountable for driving consistency, quality, and cohesion across all program sites and teams.
The Senior Program Director oversees day-to-day program operations, supports leadership development across the Program department, and ensures program outcomes are data-informed, consistently delivered, and aligned with organizational priorities. Serving as a key thought partner to the Vice President of Program Impact, this role bridges operational execution with organizational strategy while helping strengthen systems, scalability, and long-term program sustainability.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm with periodic evening availability to support community programming
Hybrid - minimum 3 days/week in office

Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Strategic Leadership and Operational Oversight
  • Provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan's program objectives by translating strategic priorities into consistent operational execution across all program sites.
  • Provide operational leadership, guidance, and accountability to the Education Director team to ensure high-quality, mission-aligned program delivery.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Program Impact on division-wide planning, program growth initiatives, and long-term scalability efforts.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex operational, staffing, site partnership, or programmatic issues requiring advanced problem-solving and cross-functional coordination.
  • Partner with Education Directors to ensure consistency in leadership practices, communication standards, program implementation, and partner engagement across all sites.
  • Represent the Program Department in internal and external meetings, community events, and educational forums.

Program Evaluation & Data-Driven Decision Making
  • Oversee the operational implementation of program evaluation processes across all sites, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and accountability.
  • Manage and monitor program outcome data across all sites to identify trends, assess effectiveness, and inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Synthesize site-level and division-wide data into actionable insights and recommendations for the VP of Program Impact and program leadership team.
  • Create an accountability structure to support Education Directors in analyzing site-specific measurables, identifying challenges, implementing improvements, and strengthening program effectiveness.
  • Utilize and refine evaluation tools - including surveys, partner assessments, logic models, and outcome frameworks - to support data-informed decision-making and organizational learning.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Provide direct supervision to Education Directors, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, professional development, and offboarding support when necessary.
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, team meetings, site observations, and leadership development conversations with Education Directors to strengthen performance and accountability.
  • Establish and reinforce consistent leadership expectations, communication practices, and operational standards across the Programs division.
  • Support Education Directors in navigating staffing challenges, performance concerns, and day-to-day program management responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, accountability, and innovation throughout the Programs team.
  • Identify and support professional development opportunities that strengthen leadership capacity and succession readiness across the division.

Partnerships & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Support the Development Team by providing accurate program data, outcome reporting, and impact narratives aligned with fundraising and grant initiatives.
  • Support and retain collaborative relationships with key site partners, educational institutions, community organizations, and other external collaborators.
  • Support Education Directors in facilitating mid-year and year-end partner reviews to strengthen communication, accountability, and partnership effectiveness.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment in the implementation and maintenance of partner MOUs and site expectations across all programs.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Specialist, Volunteer Manager, and other cross-functional partners to support effective program delivery and operational alignment.

Operational & Administrative Leadership
  • Support the VP of Program Impact in monitoring program budgets and resource allocation to ensure operational effectiveness and fiscal responsibility.
  • Prepare and present operational updates, program performance reports, and implementation insights to the VP of Program Impact and other organizational leaders as needed.
  • Identify operational efficiencies, document best practices, and strengthen systems that support sustainable growth and program scalability.
  • Develop or support standardized processes, tools, resources, and operational frameworks that improve consistency across all program sites.

Additional Education/Knowledge/Skills Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or a related field required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive program leadership experience within education or nonprofit environments, including direct people leadership and team development responsibilities.
    • Experience overseeing multi-site or multi-program operations preferred.
    • Experience with data-driven program evaluation and continuous improvement.
    • Experience with curriculum development and alignment to state educational standards preferred.
  • Knowledge
    • Strong understanding of educational equity, youth homelessness, and systems impacting students and families.
    • Knowledge of program evaluation frameworks, logic models, and outcome measurement.
    • Familiarity with Indiana Department of Education standards and relevant legislative trends.
  • Skills & Abilities
    • Data-informed decision-making and analytical reasoning.
    • Strong people leadership, coaching, and performance management skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate data into compelling narratives.
