The Foster Parent Coordinator for La Jornada serves as a primary relationship-builder and point of contact for foster families, providing event coordination, support, encouragement, problem-solving, and connection to program resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Foster Parent Coordinator for La Jornada will perform duties including, but not limited to:
Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies.
Collaborate with the program director to coordinate foster parent recruitment and community outreach efforts by building relationships with community organizations, faith-based groups, schools, and local partners to identify and engage prospective foster families.
Coordinate the onboarding and licensing journey for prospective foster parents, ensuring families receive timely guidance, required documentation support, training enrollment, and consistent communication throughout the approval process.
Coordinate foster parent training, orientation, and professional development opportunities, ensuring compliance with agency, state, and program-specific training requirements.
Collaborate closely with the program director and licensing teams to ensure foster families receive integrated support.
Track key metrics by monitoring foster home capacity, placement readiness, and family engagement trends, maintaining and identifying opportunities for recruitment or retention improvement.
Ensure foster parent records are completed timely, accurate, and up to date.
Coordinate foster parent recruitment and retention initiatives, including appreciation events, peer support groups, wellness activities, home visits, family meetings, support conferences, recognition programs, community events, resource fairs, networking opportunities, and other events to strengthen family engagement and belonging.
Facilitate communication between foster families, case managers, clinicians, and other internal departments to ensure coordinated care and timely resolution of concerns.
Collaborate with the Intake team to ensure children’s placement needs are matched with appropriate foster family.
Support placement stabilization efforts by proactively checking in with foster families, identifying early support needs.
Respond promptly to foster parent inquiries, emergencies, and after-hours concerns when applicable, ensuring families feel supported and connected.
Performs other duties as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School or GED.
Must demonstrate a sincere commitment to service and advocacy for youth and families.
Bilingual (English/Spanish). Fluency in Spanish is required.
21 years of age, a valid state driver’s license, a reliable personal vehicle, and a good driving record.
Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
OTHER SKILLS
Excellent customer service and communication skills focused on caring for people, connecting communities, and promoting peace.
Works well independently and as a team member.
Openness to local travel and after-hours work as required.
Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function.
Demonstrates tolerance and respect for the ideas and actions of others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
