Position Summary InformationJob Goal

Educational responsibilities include: teaching, curriculum development and curriculum review. May include administrative and program planning responsibilities, or clinical education responsibilities. Responsible for accreditation processes.

Qualifications

Must meet minimum experience and education requirements as outlined by the Iowa Code sections 260C.47 and 260C.48 and the Northeast Iowa Community College Quality Faculty Plan.

A baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education ( USDE )

A minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :

Must possess certifications and licenses as determined by the program dean/director:

  • A valid Registered Respiratory Therapy ( RRT ) credential and current state license
  • A valid Driver's License
Duties and Responsibilities

To fully support the mission of Northeast Iowa Community College through the functions of teaching, service and scholarship. To provide effective instruction to ensure academic programming attains student learning outcomes and prepares students for successful transition into the workforce or transfer to a post‑secondary institution. To carry out assigned responsibilities to ensure academic programs are sustainable and aligned with accreditation standards.
The College recognizes three broad areas of faculty endeavor: teaching, scholarship, and service, and expects that all faculty members will be active in each of these areas.
Teaching

Teaching is a core activity of the College and involves working with credit and non-credit students. All faculty members are expected to achieve excellence in this role. Teaching includes not only traditional classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction. Teaching includes evolving forms of technology‑enhanced instruction such as hybrid, online, distance learning courses, competency based learning, and other non‑classroom instruction such as the supervision of interns/co‑op students and clinical students.

Scholarship

Faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly activity to enhance teaching effectiveness and facilitate life‑long learning. The definition of scholarship at NICC is:

Discipline- or pedagogy- based inquiry, creative expression, or applied work experience that expands, enhances, or applies knowledge.

Service

Faculty members are expected to engage in activities at the department level that contribute to meeting the mission of the College. Faculty members are expected to contribute their disciplinary expertise through participation in internal and external community organizations relevant to their discipline of study.

Essential Functions

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS , AND ABILITIES : The candidate must have strong leadership ability; excellent communication skills; and must be ethical, honest, and objective. Experience with and aptitude for working with representatives from business, industry, education, and other agencies in the identification of vocational and general education programming to meet the needs of the department and the college. Ability to assimilate data and to organize presentations for individuals and groups. Skilled in short‑term and long range planning. Committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Commitment and willingness to participate fully in quality improvement at the personal, departmental, and institutional levels.
