Job description

Overview
Element has an opportunity for a Business Development Manager responsible for developing and growing strategic customer relationships throughout the Southwest region. Based out of our Tempe, Arizona laboratory, this role will focus on expanding business within aerospace, defense, electronics, semiconductor, industrial, and advanced technology markets by promoting Element's environmental simulation, dynamics, and EMI/EMC testing capabilities.
Element Tempe serves as a premier testing partner for commercial and military customers, supporting products from early-stage R&D and design verification through full qualification and compliance testing. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, program management, and procurement stakeholders to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and drive profitable growth.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with engineering, quality, program management, and procurement leaders within assigned accounts.
  • Drive profitable revenue growth through new business development, account penetration, and expansion of existing customer relationships.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities related to environmental simulation, vibration, shock, climatic, EMI/EMC, and product qualification testing.
  • Engage customers early in the product development lifecycle to support R&D, design verification, validation, and qualification testing requirements.
  • Understand customer programs, schedules, and compliance requirements to position Element as a strategic testing partner.
  • Deliver technical and commercial presentations to customers and industry groups.
  • Partner with laboratory operations and technical experts to develop testing solutions and proposals that meet customer requirements.
  • Follow up on quotations and opportunities to maximize conversion rates and share of wallet.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline, forecasting, and customer activity records within CRM.
  • Participate in regular business reviews and strategic account planning activities.
  • Represent Element at aerospace, defense, electronics, and manufacturing industry events, conferences, and trade associations.
  • Collaborate with other Element laboratories and business units to identify cross-selling opportunities across the organization's full portfolio of services.

Skills / Qualifications
Required
  • 5+ years of business development, technical sales, account management, or engineering experience within a technical services environment.
  • Proven success developing business within aerospace, defense, electronics, semiconductor, industrial, or advanced manufacturing markets.
  • Experience selling technical, engineering, testing, certification, validation, or compliance services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, program managers, and executive decision-makers.
  • Experience managing complex sales cycles and developing strategic customer relationships.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and proposal development skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel up to 50-75%, including occasional overnight travel.

Preferred
  • Experience with environmental testing, vibration, shock, climatic simulation, EMI/EMC testing, or product qualification programs.
  • Familiarity with aerospace and defense standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, RTCA DO-160, or related industry specifications.
  • Background in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience working with military contractors, aerospace OEMs, electronics manufacturers, or government programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
