The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is an agency dedicated to serving those who served U.S.  We are seeking motivated and dynamic individuals!  Our skilled nursing facility boasts a loyal team of long-term employees and a fantastic work culture.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be licensed in Florida as Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, have the Certified Activity Director certification recognized by an accredited body or be willing and able to obtain one of these certifications within one (1) year of date of hire.
  • Possess two (2) years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) years, one (1) of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; OR is a qualified Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of the due diligence process to include, but not limited to, a Level II background check and drug test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Five (5) years of long-term care experience.
  • AHCA, VA or JCAHO Survey experience.
  • Familiarity with volunteer programs.
  • Familiarity with resident care plans and MDS.
  • Experience working with large numbers of volunteers and volunteer groups.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • The Therapy Aide Supervisor for activities is responsible for the overall compliance of the department to include development, implementation, supervision, and ongoing evaluation of the activities program. Responsible to plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct a program of therapeutic recreation and activities to meet the individual needs of each resident.  Establish a program designed to give residents entertainment, intercommunication, exercise, relaxation, opportunity to express creative talent and fulfill basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs of residents in the State Veterans’ Nursing Home in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards. The incumbent reports directly to the Nursing Home Administrator.
  • Serve as representative of the Activity Department on the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure the residents’ treatment objectives are consistent with overall treatment process, care plans, MDS assessments and progress notes.
  • Maintain accurate progress notes by documenting each resident’s therapy activity in their electronic files making necessary updates and revisions timely.
  • Administer evaluation assessments to determine individual therapeutic program needs and interests.
  • Develop, organize, plan and implement innovative therapeutic recreation programs to meet the physical, emotional and psychosocial needs of each resident.
  • Lead activity programs as scheduled.
  • Supervise and direct assigned Senior Certified Nursing Assistants / Activities and Therapy Aides in recreational activities.
  • Set performance standards and complete evaluations.
  • Create and approve the monthly activity calendar of events.
  • Manage leave and attendance for the department.
  • Supervise and direct all volunteers.
  • Serve as coordinator for all donations to the state home.
  • Ensure that thank you letters are sent and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain daily and monthly records of resident attendance and participation in recreation activities.
  • Process purchase orders as required using required purchasing procedures (order equipment and entertainment).
  • Serve on committees at the state nursing home.
  • Perform other related duties as required to include special events at the Home and outside of the Home (i.e.: American Legion, VFW, etc.)

This position is in the Selected Exempt Service system.
