Job description

Safety Coordinator
At New England Sheets we believe that safety is THE priority. We are looking for a hands-on Safety Coordinator to develop, implement, and monitor workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations (OSHA, etc.), prevent accidents/incidents, and promote a safe environment by conducting inspections, training employees, investigating incidents, maintaining records (like OSHA 300 Log), managing PPE, and collaborating with management to ensure effectiveness of our Safety Program. Key duties involve risk assessment, policy development and enforcement, emergency planning, and fostering a safety culture through training and communication.
Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development & Implementation: Create new and sustain existing safety programs, Emergency Action Plans, and site-specific protocols.
  • Inspections & Audits: Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments of work areas
  • Training: Design and deliver safety training for new hires and existing staff on topics like hazard recognition, PPE use, and emergency procedures.
  • Incident Management: Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Our Safety Coordinator must be available to work varied shifts when needed to promote our safety culture and conduct accident/incident investigations.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain records (OSHA logs, incident reports, SDSs), ensure compliance posters are displayed, and report to management/risk management.
  • PPE Management: Ensure proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available, maintained, and used.
  • Facilitate company safety training and lead safety meetings.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Coordinate evacuation drills and crisis protocols.
  • Liaison: Act as a primary contact between employees, supervisors, management, and regulatory bodies (OSHA).

Essential Skills & Traits
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA).
  • Excellent observational, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and leadership abilities to drive safety culture.
  • Attention to detail for spotting hazards and verifying compliance.
  • Must be able to travel domestically, including air travel on occasion.
