Program:
SBCS Corporation operates a 24/7 year-round confidential, emergency shelter program for victims of domestic violence and their children. Services include 24-hour emergency shelter, food, transportation, 24-hour crisis hotline, psychological support and peer counseling, referrals to community resources, and community education and outreach. Â
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator & Program Director, the Domestic Violence Shelter and Support Services (DVSS) Family Development Associate is responsible for providing services to SBCS' clients and the Community. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission, and style and provided within a team framework. Associate is responsible for working within the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives.
DUTIES:
- Provide case management, crisis intervention, safety planning, court accompaniment and other services relative to program goals and objectives. Â
- Provide advocacy, and referrals to other services for clients.Â
- Conduct strengths-based assessments and develop service plans with clients.Â
- Ensure flexibility of scheduling to meet the needs of SBCS' clients, including providing services on weekends and evenings as required.Â
- Complete all required case file documentation in a timely and routine fashion.Â
- Facilitate coordination of services as well as contacts with other organizations and individuals, as necessary to effectively serve clients.  Â
- Utilize the Agency's approved database.Â
- Maintain client case files in accordance with Agency standards.Â
- Attends required meetings and training.Â
- Participation in special projects and activities, as related to agency's goals and objectives.
- Crisis intervention services, and referrals via telephone and in person to walk-ins.
- Attend all agency required meetings and trainings.
- As other duties assigned.Â
Requirements
- B.A. or B.S. degree in social work, psychology or related field required. Â
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in child, youth and family services field. Â
- Experience working with families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and crisis intervention. Â
- Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who present for services with high-risk needs.
- Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, and other employees.
- Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural competency, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.Â
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred, but not required.
- Detail oriented.Â
- Strong organizational skills.Â
Condition of Employment
- Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.Â
- Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
- Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver's license and valid auto insurance policy. (Approximately 30% of the time.)Â
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.

- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.Â
- Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery.Â
- Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.Â
