Job description

ABOUT US

Okland is a commercial general contractor and construction management company with more than 1,300 team members, delivering complex projects across healthcare, semiconductor, higher education, sports, hospitality, and other specialized markets. Founded in 1918 in Salt Lake City, we have grown for more than a century and operate throughout Utah, Arizona, and Idaho.

What Makes Okland Different?

We Create Remarkable Experiences

We believe how we build is just as important as what we build, and we approach every relationship with care. From clients and trade partners to team members and communities, we focus on creating experiences that earn trust.

We Share Success

Okland combines the stability of family ownership with employee ownership through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan. This unique structure provides the long-term perspective, and values-driven leadership that have guided our company for generations, while giving team members the opportunity to share the success they help create.

We Build Better Together

Our culture is rooted in accountability, humility, and excellence. We challenge the status quo, empower problem-solving, and trust our teams to take ownership and act. We learn from one another and work toward shared goals to deliver meaningful work with lasting impact. We invest in the next generation of construction talent through apprenticeships, internships, and scholarships for our communities. By expanding access for women, underrepresented groups, and families of our craft workforce who are first-generation college students, we strengthen the future of construction.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

If you have a strong understanding of the design process and enjoy bringing people, information, and decisions together, we want to talk to you. As a Design Manager, you'll take ownership of the design process for assigned projects, partnering with Owners, architects, engineers, trade partners, and internal teams to keep design moving toward a coordinated, constructible outcome. You'll thrive in this role if you're highly organized, comfortable facilitating multidisciplinary teams, and proactive about identifying and resolving issues before they impact the project. We're looking for someone who can build strong relationships while confidently driving accountability around design milestones, deliverables, and decisions.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY

Design Management & Coordination

  • Lead design management activities from project planning through construction document completion, keeping design milestones and deliverables aligned with project goals.
  • Develop and maintain design schedules, track progress, and communicate upcoming milestones and potential impacts to project stakeholders.
  • Facilitate design coordination meetings with Owners, architects, engineers, consultants, trade partners, and internal project teams.

Issue Resolution & Project Delivery

  • Own the tracking and resolution of design-related issues, risks, changes, and decisions, ensuring the right people are engaged and actions are driven to completion.
  • Lead or support QA/QC, constructability, and coordination reviews to identify gaps and improve the completeness and quality of design deliverables.
  • Partner with Preconstruction, Operations, Scheduling, and VDC teams to support estimating, procurement, phasing, model coordination, and successful project execution.

Continuous Improvement

  • Help strengthen Okland's design management processes, standards, workflows, and technology to improve how projects are planned and delivered.
  • Identify opportunities to improve communication, coordination, and accountability throughout the design process.

YOU’RE READY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE

  • A bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • 4–8 years of experience in architecture, engineering, design coordination, construction, or a related project delivery role.
  • A strong understanding of design development and construction document processes.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and facilitating project meetings.
  • Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Autodesk Revit, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Commercial construction, design-build, BIM/VDC, fast-track project delivery, scheduling, QA/QC, or constructability experience is a plus.

WHAT WE OFFER

Pay, Ownership & Retirement
