Job description

Performs and directs project designs and calculations for project segments, including such tasks as: consideration of construction sequence and techniques to be utilized to complete the project, selection of materials, and incorporation of applicable codes. Reads and interprets computer printouts and is knowledgeable in utilizing discipline-specific design software. Oversees and directs construction cost estimates including quantity takeoffs and the identification of unit price for individual cost items. Directs and prepares specifications and bid documents, assists with preparation of complex specifications and bid documents. Directs the collection and/or assembly of project data. Collects and/or assembles complex project data. Directs project site observations. This includes observing segments of existing conditions, design and construction as required. Directs and performs project documentation. Directs and performs basic drawing reviews. Assists with communication with internal and external customers to transmit or obtain information. Utilizes computer programs to produce spreadsheets, text files, etc., as directed. Performs other duties as required.

ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE

Works with others as a member of a project group; acts as a group leader for basic tasks. Acts as a group leader for complex tasks and coordinating project groups and as a project manager for single-purpose projects. Oversees basic and directs complex project budgeting. Monitors project budget hours and makes necessary adjustments in accordance with firm procedures.

MARKETING

Works with supervisor to maintain good customer relations. Reports leads to Supervisor in the form of information obtained from personal observations, newspaper articles, conversations and any other means. Follows up on qualifying leads as directed. Contributes suggestions on business development. Assist with the development of proposal and marketing efforts as requested.

EDUCATION AND SKILLS

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 15+ years of experience
  • Professional Engineer License in Illinois required
