Job description

About Grubhub

At Grubhub, we believe food is more than just a meal: It’s a source of discovery, connection, and pure enjoyment. There’s a time and place for every type of dish, from hidden neighborhood gems to tried-and-true favorites, and we exist to connect people with the food they love in all the ways they like to dig in. We’ve been at it since 2004, but now, as part of Wonder, Grubhub is operating with a renewed sense of momentum and the high-velocity energy of a powerhouse startup.

As a leading U.S. ordering and delivery marketplace, we feature over 415,000 merchants in more than 4,000 cities, creating the ultimate food experience by elevating online ordering through innovative restaurant technology, easy-to-use platforms, and an improved delivery experience. We are constantly finding new ways to innovate—from integrated grocery delivery with groceries powered by Instacart to exclusive loyalty programs. Join our team, based out of New York City, Chicago and Denver, and help us give our diners the exceptional value they deserve.

Sr. Design Manager

Grubhub is looking for a Sr. Design Manager who thrives in fast-paced, startup-style environments—someone energized by ambiguity and motivated by momentum. You’re ready to help shape our transformation with bold thinking, big ideas, and fearless creativity, turning vision into action through grit, resilience, and a strong bias toward execution. You balance craft and speed, holding a high creative bar while navigating real-world constraints, and ensure every detail ladders up to the bigger brand opportunity.

You deliver results by building strong, proactive partnerships across marketing, product, strategy, copy, and production, helping to shape briefs and anticipate challenges. You’re deeply curious about culture, design systems, emerging platforms, and consumer behavior, asking smart questions and challenging assumptions to find sharper solutions. Most importantly, you bring positive energy, ownership, and accountability—raising the bar for both the work and the team around you.

About the Opportunity

As a Sr. Design Manager at Grubhub, you will partner on the design and execution of projects that directly support our business and bring our brand to life across all consumer touchpoints. Successful candidates will demonstrate a superior ability to generate inspirational design solutions, driving work from ideation through execution with both creative excellence and strategic impact.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to help Grubhub connect with consumers in meaningful and memorable ways. Projects may include:

  • B2C and B2B digital marketing, including email, social (paid and organic), display, and in-app placements

  • Campaign-level thinking across 360° brand initiatives, including brand toolkits, social media strategy, promotions, and OOH

  • Commercial development that aligns creative vision with business objectives

This is a hands-on role where your creative leadership will shape how Grubhub engages with consumers, elevates the brand, and drives meaningful business results.

Day to Day Strategy & Design
As a Sr. Design Manager at Grubhub, you will craft elevated, holistic brand executions that drive customer engagement, loyalty, and business impact. You will identify and champion self-initiated design ideas that create measurable value.

You’ll energize and lead both internal teams and external creative partners from ideation through execution, developing breakthrough design solutions that support Grubhub’s customer-first agenda. Collaboration is key—you’ll work closely with cross functional stakeholders from Marketing, Brand Strategy, Production, and Product to understand customer and brand partner needs, ensuring all design decisions are strategic and impactful.
Design Project Management
The Sr. Design Manager serves as the bridge between creative vision and execution, ensuring ideas move from concept to completion seamlessly. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to align design strategies with operational realities, manage resources effectively, and meet delivery timelines.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience as a multidisciplinary designer, taking projects from concept through execution

  • Proven experience in digital marketing design

  • Agency and/or in-house experience (CPG or food industry a plus)

  • Advanced proficiency in Figma (preferred design software) and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Proficiency with After Effects and/or motion editors

  • Willingness to travel domestically.

  • Strong typography, conceptual design, and design strategy skills.

  • Experience across 360° brand design and digital marketing touchpoints (email, social paid and organic, display, in-app, OOH, commercial).

  • Exceptional design taste, with awareness of trends and ability to push ideas beyond the brief.

  • Skilled at collaborating across teams and disciplines, building strong internal and external partnerships.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills—able to influence effectively at all levels.

  • Thrives in agile, dynamic environments with a start-up mentality; embraces ambiguity and adapts quickly while maintaining high standards.

  • Capable of multitasking, with strong time and project management skills to meet deadlines.

  • Leads creative development on key projects, delivering highly crafted work that drives engagement and reflects Grubhub’s bold new direction.

  • Presents work with clarity and confidence, communicating the strategic thinking behind creative decisions.

  • Mentors and inspires fellow creatives, fostering a culture of curiosity, craft, and creative bravery.

  • Brings a solutions-oriented mindset, continuously improving processes and team efficiencies.

  • Curiosity using AI tools into their workflow to enhance creativity, efficiency, and innovation across design processes

Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome—and encouraged—to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.

New York: $149,000 - $165,500 per year.
