Job Description SummaryThe Design Manager shall have both management and individual contributor responsibilities.
As a Manager, you will be responsible for delivering technical output for the development of hypersonic flight and ground prototypes and their subsystems for the purpose of maturing high-speed propulsion systems to TRL 6-7. As an experienced leader, you will direct teams of design and analysis engineers to meet program requirements and develop both the teams and their processes through continuous improvement, and balancing capacity and capability with business demands. As part of the engineering leadership team, you will be a key player in determining engineering strategy and influencing future business direction. Liaising closely with Engineering, Program, Test and Manufacturing counterparts, you will lead a highly-technical engineering team to deliver business needs and achieve continuous process improvements.
As an individual contributor you shall perform senior level mechanical design and analysis activities for high-speed propulsion systems.

  • Leadership, support and development of a world-class engineering team, including: recruitment; team member career development and ongoing appraisal processes; training, coaching and mentoring for continuous improvement.

  • Continual engagement with other company leaders to properly resource load programs and continually enhance capabilities.

  • Leadership of technical excellence within the team including engagement with technical activities when required; creating, developing and enhancing processes and practices, applying solid understanding of engineering principles to multiple technical challenges.

  • Upholding and developing strong Lean principles, approaches, standard work and daily management within the team; leading and supporting Lean activities and events to achieve business priorities.

  • Develop technical design solutions supported by analysis and coordinate with multidiscipline teams to achieve program objectives

Required Qualifications:

  • This role requires significant experience in the hypersonic air breathing propulsion system field.

  • 15+ years experience, in Engineering/Technology & Functional Management through all lifecycle phases.

  • 10+ years experience developing prototype ground and flight systems development including flight relevant (fuel cooled, flight weight, QA processes) hardware.

  • 10+ years experience developing fluid systems.

  • 10+ years experience working with DOD and NASA customers.

  • Expert ability to develop mechanical design using NX CAD and TcUA.

  • Experience performing thermal-structural analysis via classical calculations, 1D tools and ANSYS FEA.

  • Significant experience leading hardware production and ground and flight testing of flight relevant systems.

  • Bachelor's Degree accredited college or university + Minimum of 15 years experience, in Engineering/Technology & Functional Management through all lifecycle phases.

  • This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance.

For New York applicants the base pay range for this position is 150,000 - 225,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.
