Program Design Manager information

What does a program design manager do?

A Program Design Manager oversees the planning, development, and implementation of programs within an organization. They work closely with stakeholders to identify goals, design effective program structures, and ensure that projects align with organizational objectives. Their responsibilities often include resource allocation, timeline management, and evaluating program success to make continuous improvements. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a program design manager?

To thrive as a Program Design Manager, you need expertise in program development, project management, and stakeholder engagement, often supported by a relevant degree and experience in program leadership. Familiarity with project management software (like Asana or MS Project), data analysis tools, and sometimes certifications such as PMP are typically required. Outstanding communication, strategic thinking, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for coordinating teams and driving program success. These skills ensure that programs are effectively planned, executed, and aligned with organizational goals for maximum impact.

How does a program design manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during the development of new initiatives?

A Program Design Manager regularly collaborates with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, operations, and finance, to ensure that new programs align with organizational goals and stakeholder needs. They facilitate workshops, gather feedback, and integrate diverse perspectives to create effective program frameworks. Open communication and strong project management skills are essential, as the role often involves coordinating timelines, resources, and deliverables across departments. This collaborative approach helps ensure the program’s success and fosters a cohesive work environment.

Overview:

If you're looking for the stability of a profitable, growing company with the entrepreneurial spirit of a startup, we’re hiring. SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Program Design Manager. As a Program Design Manager, you will be pivotal in refining and driving clarity in the business requirements necessary to ensure new carriers, products, conventions and coverages for our Commercial business unit are successfully implemented. To effectively accomplish this task, you will collaborate with multiple departments within SageSure, including teams like Product Development, Actuarial, Claims, Customer Service, Software, Product Implementation, Sales & Marketing. This position demands an intellectually curious individual with a strong background in Commercial BOP, who is motivated to learn, grow, and make a significant impact.

What you’d be doing:

  • Lead and develop a team providing coaching, mentorship, performance feedback, and career development support.

  • Foster an engaged, inclusive, and high-performing team culture across remote, hybrid, and in-office team members through regular communication, collaboration, and development opportunities.

  • Partner with business leaders and stakeholders to clarify project scope, define business objectives, and establish success criteria for new carrier implementations, product launches, and other strategic initiatives.

  • Guide the development and documentation of detailed business requirements, ensuring alignment between business needs, operational processes, and technology solutions.

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of process flows, requirements documentation, implementation plans, and other supporting materials necessary for successful execution.

  • Build strong partnerships with business, technology, and operational stakeholders through a combination of virtual collaboration, office visits, workshops, and in-person working sessions.

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, and other technology teams to assess feasibility, identify dependencies, and ensure solutions effectively support business objectives.

  • Provide clear and consistent communication to stakeholders, including senior leadership, regarding project objectives, progress, risks, implementation status, and post-launch outcomes.

  • Lead change management and go-to-market activities to support successful adoption of new products, carriers, processes, and business capabilities.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the Commercial business, providing guidance and consultation on business processes, product changes, and operational impacts.

  • Monitor program performance, implementation results, and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and drive continuous enhancement efforts.

  • Identify and recommend process improvements that streamline operations, improve stakeholder experiences, and increase organizational efficiency.

  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment and decision-making across multiple teams, departments, and stakeholder groups.

  • Lead and support special projects and strategic initiatives that advance Commercial business priorities and organizational goals.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Business, Finance, or Risk Management.

  • 8+ years of insurance industry experience, working in Underwriting or a Product Development capacity with insurance products, preferably commercial insurance.

  • Experience in project management and familiarity with technology concepts.

  • Experience documenting business requirements.

  • Expertise in quoting and policy administration.

  • A “do-what-it-takes” attitude when it comes to accomplishing tasks.

  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to define problems, analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • A keen awareness and sensitivity to the customer experience,
