Job Summary/Basic Function:The primary purpose of this position is to provide immigration support and retention of international students. Provide management for international student retention and student success, co-curricular programming such as workshops, cross-cultural programming (which increase interaction between domestic and international students), and new student orientation/adaptation to campus life. Advise international students on immigration regulations and serve as University Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer for the US Department of Homeland Security and US Department of State.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree and at least one-year related experience which can include graduate assistantships, internships, and the equivalent part time.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent internet and Microsoft Office skills.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree.
- Three years' experience in higher education institution.
- Experience with international students.
- Working knowledge of systems such as Banner.
- Experience coordinating events and/or workshops.
Essential Functions and percent of time:20% Immigration ProcessingSupport Primary Designated School Official (DSO) to process immigration documents including travel requests, major changes, and other F-1 and J-1 visa processing.
20% I-20 IssuanceAct as DSO issuing I-20s for admission purposes.
10% CPT and OPT ProcessingAct as DSO processing and reporting for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT).
20% Cross-cultural programming, Retention, Student SuccessEncourage and facilitate opportunities for increased student interaction between domestic and international students. Coordinate all student events including Co-Curricular Workshops, Convo Club, Coffee Hours, cultural events, and International Education Week. Plan and collaborate to organize off campus trips to various events. Manage the host family program to connect international students with local American families.
25% New student support servicesPlan and implement International Student Orientation program each term including preparing pre-arrival information for the website and presenting orientations sessions and activities. Provide extended orientation program to give students the tools to success at WSU. Collect data on student satisfaction with various services on campus including pre-departure and new student surveys. Supervise airport pickups and immigration check-in. Coordinate housing for all international students.
