Job Function:

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator or Director. Adult and Youth Officials are responsible for the integral part of monitoring sports activity, making sure all rules are followed and the game is played fairly. The employee is always in direct physical supervision of all activities that they are assigned which demands a certain degree of independence. Work is performed within the framework of pre-established lesson plans and activity guidelines. Incumbent must have a proven track-record showing a good work ethic and punctuality. Incumbent must have flexible availability to work during peak program hours; that may include split shifts, daytime, evenings, and weekends.

Career Path:

Essential Duties:

  1. Provides assistance in the direction and development of sports activities.
  2. Participate as well as assist with the various techniques, rules and regulations of team and individual sports.
  3. Maintains order, discipline and safety.
  4. Maintains self-control at the same time displaying appropriate sportsmanship behaviors to all youth.
  5. Facilitate/ lead sports pledge before games.
  6. Ensure games begin on time.
  7. Ensures the goal heights are adjusted in accordance to the age group that will be utilizing them.
  8. Ensures the proper size ball in utilized in accordance with the proper age group.
  9. Assists supervisor with set-up and clean-up as needed.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Work requires the ability to perform activities outdoors, enduring a wide variety of weather conditions including but not limited to; direct sunlight, standing, walking, bending, pushing and pulling.
  • Requires occasional sitting, reaching overhead and climbing.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to all age groups.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports for Program Coordinator as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate, GED or enrollment in high school (age 16 or older) or college.
  • Must have ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to deal with the general public of all ages tactfully and effectively.
  • Must be physically able to actively participate in sports or activity instruction.
  • Ability to develop positive interest in recreational activities.
  • Must have a positive attitude toward youth of all ages.
  • Take-charge attitude encouraged.
  • Must have ability to explain calls to players and coaches tactfully and effectively.
  • Must complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period. A valid Florida Driver's License is required.

Essential Physical Skills:


  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections)
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without corrections)
  • Must be able to operate a variety of recreational equipment, arts and crafts, materials, and supplies.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull at least 40 lbs.

Environmental Conditions:


  • Works primarily outdoors.
  • Works indoors.
  • Weekend hours.
