Job description

We are seeking a Program Manager to oversee research project execution. Main duties include coordinating various day-to-day technical and administrative functions pertaining to a large laboratory and ensuring there is no duplication of effort. This position will also align and standardize lab tasks and ensure lab member efficiency while conducting lab duties. These management and coordination responsibilities are carried out concurrently with technical responsibilities relative to the research program(s) to which they are assigned. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of a faculty members conducting research in nonhuman primate (NHP) models of tuberculosis (TB).
The Role:
  • Coordinates communication with the various regulatory bodies including but not limited to Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), the Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC) Office of the Director, SNPRC Veterinary Resources, and Environmental Health/Biosafety, Biocontainment Operations, Facilities Operations, external and internal stakeholders and collaborators in order to schedule and execute research projects in ABSL2/3 in a timely manner.
  • Provides support (drafting, editing, and submitting) for new IBC/IACUC protocol applications, amendments and renewals for studies of NHP models of TB; may be designated as a Co-PI on IACUC/IBC protocols to allow for execution and processing of submissions and revisions.
  • Coordinates with the PI to submit grant applications to the NIH and other funding agencies.
  • Communicates regularly with the SNPRC budgeting office as well as the Texas Biomed sponsored programs to prepare budgets for funding applications in a timely manner.
  • Drafts animal schedules in collaboration with SNPRC research planners, Biocontainment Operations Coordinators, and Vivarium manager; budgets and verifies all animal work is approved through regulatory bodies in a timely manner.
  • Acts as liaison to principal investigators and support staff personnel in collaborating laboratories and animal services.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Programs at minimum monthly concerning expenditures and related budget details for ongoing programs (post-award).
  • Maintains regular communication with supervisors and reporting employees related to upcoming tasks and deadlines and assists as needed.
  • Ensures that routine reports such as safety briefing records and funding progress reports, among others, are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with stakeholders with the purpose of achieving program objectives.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biological Science-related field from an accredited college/university with two years of prior program-management experience required, or a
  • Master's degree in Biological Science-related field from an accredited college/university is preferred.
