NMPP Energy, located in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking a Sustainability Program Coordinator to join our team. Use your skills, experience, and talents to lead, coordinate and administer sustainability, emissions-reduction, and environmental compliance initiatives across multiple jurisdictions. This role will ensure our member communities comply with existing and emerging state and federal clean energy, emissions, and reporting requirements while supporting Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraskas (MEAN) long-term vision to be carbon neutral by 2050. This role will serve as the subject matter expert for clean energy compliance programs, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), emissions tracking, sustainability reporting, and energy efficiency coordination. This role will track regulatory developments, prepare required filings and reports, develop internal processes, and communicate progress.
The Sustainability Program Coordinator supports the mission of NMPP Energy by:
Clean Energy Policy Compliance and Reporting
- Coordinating and supporting the development and submittal of all required filings associated with the Colorado Clean Energy Plan (CEP), including compliance with the 80% emissions-reduction requirement by 2030, in coordination with internal staff, member communities, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Tracking, evaluating, and assessing existing and potential future legislation or regulatory requirements related to carbon emissions, clean energy standards, renewable portfolio standards, or sustainability reporting; communicating impacts to management and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on risk mitigation and compliance pathways.
- Providing analytical and reporting support for state and federal emissions-related compliance obligations, including data requests from regulators, agencies, and external stakeholders.
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and Environmental Attributes
- Serving as lead for Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) management, including tracking, registry administration, accounting, verification, and retirement of RECs on behalf of MEAN and its members.
- Coordinating and supporting the development, execution, and administration of REC purchase, sale, transfer, and swap agreements, working internal departments and external counterparties as required.
- Maintaining familiarity with regional and national REC markets, registry rules, certification programs, and best practices to ensure accurate accounting and maximize value for MEAN and its members.
Sustainability Strategy and Board Reporting
- Tracking progress toward our 2050 Carbon Neutral Vision, including development of metrics, dashboards, and internal tracking tools to measure performance against goals.
- Collaborating with and providing support for resource strategies and development that promotes sustainable energy in MEANs overall resource portfolio.
- Preparing and presenting annual sustainability and emissions-reduction progress to the MEAN Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
- Supporting development of sustainability-related policies, frameworks, or strategic initiatives aligned with MEANs long-term resource planning and Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
Data Reporting and Program Support
- Tracking, supporting, and reporting on MEAN energy efficiency and demand-side management programs, including data collection, performance tracking, and member coordination.
- Developing, documenting, and maintaining internal procedures, calendars, and data sources for sustainability-related reporting and compliance activities.
Skills & Qualifications You Need
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Energy Management, Engineering, Public Policy, Sustainability, Business or related field and 3-5 years of relevant experience in sustainability, environmental compliance, energy policy, utility operations, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in the electric utility sector, energy markets, or public power organizations is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of clean energy policies, emissions-reduction programs, and sustainability reporting frameworks.
- Understanding of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), environmental attributes, and registry systems.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable compliance strategies.
- Ability to synthesize and communicate complex technical or regulatory information to diverse audiences, including management, boards, regulators, and member communities.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and compliance obligations simultaneously.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
