Job description

The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Part-Time Assistant Men's Basketball Coach. This position reports to the Head Men's Basketball Coach and assists with the management, administration, and support of the men's basketball program within the Athletic Department.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with administrative duties in all phases of the program.
  • Assist with all phases of competitive NAIA-compliant recruiting.
  • Recruit athletically and academically qualified student-athletes.
  • Evaluate prospective student-athletes through game, showcase, and video observation.
  • Assist with retaining student-athletes within the program.
  • Produce game-day and recruiting graphics as needed.
  • Assist with practice planning, implementation, game planning, and video coordination.
  • Provide position-specific skill development in assigned areas.
  • Assist with the direction of camps, fundraising, and other program development activities.
  • Assist with team travel arrangements, including meals, lodging, and other logistics for home and away contests.
  • Assist the Head Coach with office and administrative duties.
  • Help coach and lead the program's junior varsity program.
  • Understand and follow Athletic Department expectations, University policies, Appalachian Athletic Conference rules, and NAIA eligibility requirements.
  • Promote the safety of students, coaches, facilities, and equipment during activities, practices, and competitions.
  • Regularly attend and participate in department meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with campus constituents to support and improve the student-athlete experience.
  • Understand and support the culture of the men's basketball program, Athletic Department, and campus community.
  • Operate university vehicles as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must be able to support and follow the vision of the program.
  • Must be able to work effectively under challenging conditions and collaboratively with others.
  • Willingness to work late, flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work well with others and provide leadership.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students from diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team at all levels of the organization and commit to contributing to the mission of the University.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations established by the NAIA and the AppalachianAthletic Conference.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and staff.
