Job description

Program Assistant For Farm To Preschool Initiative

Child Care Council of Nassau seeks a Program Assistant for our Eat Well Play Hard in Child Care Settings (EWPHCCS) Farm to Preschool initiative. EWPHCCS is a childhood obesity prevention intervention administered by the NYS Department of Health Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and funded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) initiative. Our Farm to Preschool Program Assistant will assist the Farm to Preschool Program Coordinator in organizing and running seasonal outside produce events at child care centers in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with outdoor setup and breakdown of equipment, including tents, tables, and cooking gear
  • Provide friendly and helpful customer service to event customers
  • Distribute educational materials and giveaway items to participants
  • Support cooking demonstrations as needed
  • Maintain and organize required paperwork on site
  • Help develop educational materials and interactive displays for child care centers
  • Assist with gardening projects at participating centers
  • Engage with young children at day care centers in a positive and age-appropriate manner

Qualifications

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions from June through October
  • Willingness and reliable means to travel across Nassau and Suffolk Counties
  • Early Childhood/Nutrition/Community Health courses or related field
  • Knowledge/experience of child care programs
  • Minimum two (2) years of work experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to engage with preschool-aged children in a positive and age-appropriate manner
  • Bilingual fluency preferred
  • Maintain active ServSafe certification
