Regular Hours are 3:00pm - 6:00pm, while the school is operational

JOB PURPOSE

The York School is seeking a passionate and dedicated After Care Assistant to support and facilitate a high-quality program aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework and the school’s mission, vision, and values. Reporting to the Junior School Principal, the After Care Assistant supports the daily operations of the Junior School After Care Program, which provides care for students in JK to Grade 6, Monday to Friday from 3:00pm until 6:00pm. The program offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities consistent with a play and inquiry based approach within a nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will build meaningful relationships with students and families, contribute to a collaborative school culture, and positively engage in the broader life of the school community.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the After Care Supervisor in the daily delivery of the After Care Program

  • Assist in planning and facilitating engaging indoor and outdoor activities

  • Provide homework support, as required

  • Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including during student arrival, dismissal, and safe release to parents and caregivers

  • Communicate professionally and positively with parents and caregivers during daily pick-up times

  • Administer and supervise daily snack time in accordance with health, safety, and allergy protocols

  • Maintain accurate student attendance records and report absences or concerns to the AfterCare Supervisor

  • Support cleanliness and organization of program spaces at the end of each day

  • Collaborate with the AfterCare Supervisor and Junior School staff to support individual student needs

  • Other job duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Child Studies, Education, or a related field

  • Experience working with children aged 4 to 12 in a school, camp, or childcare setting

  • Understanding of child development and age-appropriate programming

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment that strengthens a positive, inclusive school culture

  • Proven strength in fostering respectful, responsive, and professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues, ensuring a service-oriented approach in all interactions

  • Proficiency in navigating a technologically rich school environment, with expertise in Google Workspace considered an asset
