Position: Press Assistant I
Location: Mississauga, ON
Shift: Continental Shifts
Pay Rate: $25.66 CAD/hour

Summary Description

The Press Assistant I plays a key role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of the printing press by preparing materials, assisting with press setup, maintaining ink systems, and ensuring production runs smoothly. Working closely with the Press Operator, this position helps produce high-quality flexible packaging while maintaining safety, housekeeping, and quality standards throughout the production process.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe manufacturing practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Maintain company housekeeping, health, and safety standards throughout the work area.

  • Assemble and disassemble press components, including pumps, hoses, filters, and related equipment.

  • Monitor and maintain ink viscosity and ink levels during production.

  • Blend inks according to required ratios and prepare solvent blends.

  • Properly label and store all ink containers and production materials.

  • Load and unload rolls from the press and rewind equipment.

  • Prepare raw materials for production and ensure they are staged for upcoming jobs.

  • Set up splices and perform flying splices during production.

  • Prepare cylinders and trolleys for press setup.

  • Perform routine housekeeping and maintenance tasks around the press area.

  • Secure finished rolls for transportation and storage.

  • Prepare doctor blade assemblies for production.

  • Assist the Press Operator with machine setup, operation, and changeovers.

  • Review job kits and job jackets to understand production requirements.

  • Verify materials are processed on the correct surface and according to job specifications.

  • Perform raw material testing as required.

  • Prepare materials for the next production job before the current run is completed.

  • Provide cross-functional support to other team members as needed.

  • Serve as a backup Press Operator when required.

  • Participate in Global Performance System (GPS) activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
