Description
The Betty Gold College of Arts and Sciences at Mary Baldwin University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Health Science to begin August 2026. The College is seeking a teacher-scholar with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising, enthusiasm for the environment of a small, student-centered liberal arts university, and a genuine interest in developing a health science program with a distinctive community health orientation.
The successful candidate will have expertise in public health, community health, health education, health behavior, or a related field and must be able to teach the core courses of the BS in Health Science program, including Research Methods and Practice, Applied Biostatistics, Principles of Health Education, and the Senior Project capstone. The ability to contribute to developing a workforce-oriented curriculum in community health and health promotion is expected; the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the School Director to shape the program's direction, including the development of new courses and experiential learning opportunities with regional health partners. The successful candidate will advise Health Science majors across both pre-professional and workforce tracks, and contribute to advising in the related Exercise Science major. A doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in Public Health, Community Health, Epidemiology, Health Behavior, Health Education, Health Services, or a closely related field is required. Professional certification in a relevant area (such as CHES, CPH, or equivalent) is preferred.

Essential Duties
In collaboration with The College of Arts & Sciences administration, faculty, staff, the Assistant Professor of Exercise Science will:
  • Teach standard course load per year which may include laboratory sections
  • Mentor and advise students with respect to course work and career goals
  • Support and Mentor students through senior capstone requirement
  • Assist in developing a strong workforce oriented program
  • Serve on college committees
  • Be engaged in the profession through research and/or participation in professional organizations

Required Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in Public Health, Community Health, Epidemiology, Health Behavior, Health Education, Health Services, or a closely related field is required.
