About the Role
The Sr Communications Specialist is a strategic communications professional responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications initiatives that advance organizational objectives and enhance brand reputation. This role requires exceptional writing skills, deep expertise in media relations and digital communications, and proven ability to manage complex, high-stakes communications projects. The Sr Communications Specialist serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, crafts compelling narratives for diverse stakeholders, and drives measurable impact through data-driven communications strategies.
Core responsibilities include developing integrated communications strategies aligned with organizational goals, leading media relations efforts by pitching stories and cultivating journalist relationships, and designing digital campaigns that maximize reach and engagement across multiple platforms. Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree or Masters +6 yrs experience).
  • Typically 8+ years of related experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to craft strategic messaging, press releases, talking points, and executive communications for diverse audiences.
  • Expert knowledge of media relations including pitching stories, managing press inquiries, and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital communications strategy, social media management, content management systems, and analytics tools to measure campaign effectiveness.
  • Strong strategic planning abilities to develop and implement integrated communications campaigns that align with organizational goals and brand standards.
  • Proven crisis communications and reputation management experience with ability to respond effectively under pressure and exercise sound judgment with sensitive information.
  • Expertise in AP Style, professional writing standards, and ability to translate complex technical or policy information into clear, accessible language.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent stakeholder relations skills with ability to collaborate across all organizational levels and provide mentorship to junior communications team.
  • Proficiency in communications measurement and evaluation using analytics platforms to assess reach, engagement, and impact of communications initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive communications experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro).
  • Expert knowledge of AP Style and professional writing standards.
  • Experience with video production and photography.
  • Demonstrated expertise in communications analytics and measurement platforms (Google Analytics, social media analytics tools, etc.).
  • Proven track record in strategic communications planning and integrated campaign development.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior communications professionals.
  • Strong understanding of content management systems and digital publishing platforms.

Compensation:
Pay Range:
$125,181.00 - $172,123.50
Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
