Job description

JOB TITLE:                Senior Metallurgist                                                           DEPARTMENT:        Process/Metallurgy                     LOCATION:              Robinson Mine - Ruth, NVPAY GRADE:            7POSITION REPORTS TO:  Chief MetallurgistROTATING SHIFT: No EXEMPT       Purpose & Scope of The Position: 

The Sr Metallurgist interacts with sample prep, analytical lab, metallurgical lab, operations, accounting, purchasing, warehousing, mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance and mine engineering departments.  This position supports mine, processing, administration and exploration/geology departments by providing timely and accurate determinations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day metallurgical performance of the plant and mentoring of plant metallurgists.
  • Conduct testing and collect data to achieve optimization of ore processing in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
  • Maintain accurate metallurgical balances and reporting.
  • Work closely with mine engineering regarding scheduled ore delivery and grade and communicate in advance any prospective metallurgical problems associated with the type of ore to be delivered to the crushing plant.
  • Optimize, troubleshoot and implement solutions for metallurgical technical issues affecting plant performance.
  • Improve plant processes by providing technical information to develop, train and help set operational guidelines.
  • Perform all activities in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with RNMC management, contractors and be a capable project and task manager.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of KGHM.
Required Education, Work Experience & Training:
  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy (Mineral Processing) or Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive "hands on" professional experience, preferably in the mining industry.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with technical writing experience.
  • Knowledge of copper flotation, metallurgical processes and problem-solving ability in a difficult ore body setting.
  • Practical experience in a process plant and analytical/metallurgical laboratory environment.
Preferred Education, Work Experience & Training:
  • Experience in copper-moly flotation and expert control strategy.
  • Basic understanding of Project Management and Cost Accounting.
  • Geo-metallurgy and its role in process performance.
Technical Skills:
  • Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel proficiency and utilization of other related software.
  • Knowledge of grinding, flotation, thickening, filtering and drying equipment.
  • Statistical methods and their application software desirable.
  • Mass balance and modelling software proficiency.
Travel Requirements:
  • Occasionally for training and development.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Mentor graduate metallurgists and supervise interns.
Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to meet the required physical demands, including exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
