Job description

TITLE: Junior High Boys P.E. Teacher Plus Additional Classes Based on Certification, Experience, and Expertise
DEPARTMENT: Junior High
REPORTS TO: JH Principal
SUMMARY: The Junior High Boys P.E. teacher serves as a Christ-centered educator who supports the mission of Loma Linda Academy by providing high-quality instruction, fostering student growth, and contributing to a safe, supportive, and collaborative learning environment. The teacher demonstrates strong knowledge of curriculum, classroom management, and effective instructional practices aligned with standards-based education. As a member of the faculty, the teacher is expected to model Christian values in word and action, work collaboratively with colleagues through Professional Learning Communities, and support the spiritual, academic, social, and physical development of students. Teachers are also expected to fulfill assigned responsibilities both inside and outside the classroom.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teach junior high classes, including but not limited to boys' P.E. Other class assignments may be determined by teacher certification, endorsement, area of expertise, or experience, based on the program's needs.
  2. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that reflect a Biblical worldview and meet curriculum standards.
  3. Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to collaborate with colleagues around student learning, analyze data, strengthen instruction, and ensure consistent implementation of standards-based teaching and assessment practices.
  4. Contribute to a safe, supportive, and highly collaborative school culture by building positive relationships with students and colleagues, upholding shared expectations, and engaging in continuous improvement aligned with High Reliability School practices.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter content and follow adopted curriculum using a variety of instructional strategies and materials.
  6. Will monitor and assess student learning using multiple tools of assessment (formative, summative, standardized), using results to guide instruction.
  7. Engage and support all students in learning by setting goals for students, facilitating learning experiences, and encouraging problem solving and critical thinking.
  8. Will create and maintain an effective learning environment that stimulates intellect, is fair and respectful, and is conducive to moral development.
  9. Will create and maintain standards for student behavior.
  10. Maintains a physical environment that is clean, safe and orderly.
  11. Will communicate student progress with students and parents/guardians in a timely manner, keeping current with posting of grades (using electronic gradebook).
  12. Maintain complete, accurate and confidential student records.
  13. Will develop as a Christian, professional educator by demonstrating a lifestyle that is consistent with SDA standards.
  14. Collaborate with administration, faculty and staff to create a safe, respectful, and Christ-centered learning environment.
  15. Serve as a spiritual role model, actively participate in worship services, attend all required faculty worships, etc.
  16. Will fulfill adjunct duties (supervision, class/club sponsor, trips, faculty meetings.) as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, single subject for secondary or BA in Elementary
Education or equivalent. SDA Teacher Certification with endorsement in relevant subject area.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents and procedure manuals. Ability to create routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with parents, employees, and school administration.
Reasoning Ability
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs;
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently and maintain confidence. Must be organized and detailed. Must possess skills in working with culturally and ethnically diverse groups. Must possess strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must possess adaptability and creative responses to setbacks and obstacles. Must have personal time management skills and motivation to work toward goals.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to lift 30 pounds.
