Productions Assistant information

What does a productions assistant do?

A Production Assistant (PA) is an entry-level crew member who supports the production team in a variety of ways on a film, television, or commercial set. Their responsibilities can include tasks such as setting up equipment, managing paperwork, running errands, coordinating talent and crew, and assisting with logistics on set. The job often requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. PAs are essential for keeping the production running smoothly and efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a productions assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Production Assistant, you need strong organizational abilities, multitasking skills, and a basic understanding of production processes, with a high school diploma or relevant experience often required. Familiarity with production scheduling software, call sheets, and basic office tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace is important. Proactive communication, problem-solving, and the ability to work well under pressure are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure smooth day-to-day operations, effective team support, and the ability to adapt quickly to the fast-paced demands of production environments.

What are some common challenges faced by productions assistants, and how can they overcome them?

Production Assistants often encounter fast-paced, high-pressure environments where multitasking and adaptability are crucial. Common challenges include managing time effectively, handling last-minute changes, and communicating clearly with various departments. To overcome these, PAs should stay organized, proactively seek clarification when unsure, and remain flexible to shifting priorities. Building strong working relationships and maintaining a positive attitude can also help navigate the demands of the role.

Manufacturing Associate โ€“ Finishing/Bindery (Weโ€™ll Train You!)

2nd shift 2:30PM - 11PM

At Sheridan your work doesnโ€™t disappear into a spreadsheetโ€”it becomes books, catalogs, and printed materials people use every day. If youโ€™ve worked with machines, enjoy hands-on work, and take pride in quality, weโ€™ll train you to run high-speed bindery equipment.

Weโ€™re hiring anyone who is ready to learn, grow, and build a long-term career in print manufacturing.

What Youโ€™ll Do:

  • Feed books/signatures into machine.
  • Pack books into cartons.
  • Safely move materials/books to and from workstation.
  • Perform hand operations as required.
  • Work as part of a team to hit daily production goals.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Follow safety procedures and help maintain a clean, organized workspace.

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read sufficiently to identify various printed forms and count accurately.
  • Show up reliably and work well with a team

Physical & Work Environment:

Work is performed in a factory environment with regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and physical hazards of machinery, plus some exposure to fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals.

  • Walking: Must be able to walk with ease, as some operations require constant walking.
  • Standing: Must be able to stand (almost all jobs operations require long hours) on a concrete floor, or wooden platform.
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift various materials weighing up to 50 pounds continuously.
  • Twisting: Must be able to twist/rotate at the waist, up to 90 degrees, when loading or packing.

Sheridan is an Equal Opportunity employer.  All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected Veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law.

If you need assistance or a reasonable accommodation to apply for employment, please contact the location HR Manager at 218-829-2877 or smn.jobs@sheridan.com.
