Ontic's Creedmoor, NC, site is home to a number of specialist companies within the Ontic Group, including Firstmark, Twin Commander, and Metro Merlin. With over 1,300 employees across four time zones and seven sites, we have more than doubled in size since 2019 and are continuing to grow at pace.
Our team is looking for a Production Planner to join us. You will report to the Planning & Warehouse Manager and will have an onsite work structure in Creedmoor, North Carolina.
The Production Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and tracking material requirements to support the production of aircraft products.
This role utilizes the MRP/ERP system to plan, create, and release work orders to the shop floor, ensuring alignment with customer delivery schedules and dependent demand.
The Production Planner monitors inventory levels across both make-to-order and make-to-stock environments, supporting new production and MRO (FAA Repair Station) activities.
This position works closely with the Master Scheduler and Purchasing team to ensure timely material availability and collaborates cross-functionally to support efficient manufacturing operations and on-time delivery performance.
To be considered for the Production Planner opening, here's what you'll need to bring with you:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • APICS certification (CPIM or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in production planning or production control.
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing processes and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Solid understanding of APICS planning principles.
  • Clear understanding of multi-level Bills of Material (BOM), MRP demand and supply planning, lead times, safety stock, and min/max inventory strategies.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
    • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing teams.
    • Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/blueprints is a plus.

As a Production Planner, you will:
Make-to-Order (MTO) Management:
  • Plan, track, and prioritize production material requirements to meet Sales Order schedule dates.
  • Create and release work orders to the shop floor in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain process flow charts for key, critical, or new products when required.
  • Schedule, prioritize, and monitor production processes and material availability.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to ensure delivery commitments are met.

Make-to-Stock (MTS) Management:
  • Maintain appropriate stocking levels for products that must ship faster than manufacturing lead times allow.
  • Create and release work orders to support stocking strategies.
  • Schedule, prioritize, and monitor production processes and material availability.
  • Review demand forecasts and adjust build schedules and work orders accordingly.

Additional Duties:
  • Support cross-functional initiatives that improve production planning and operational performance.
  • Perform other planning-related responsibilities as assigned.

Performance Expectations:
(Within 30 Days)
  • Gain familiarity with assigned product lines and begin supporting a defined group of products.
  • Release work orders within required timeframes while considering resource capacity and inventory levels.

(Within 6 Months)
  • Independently support multiple product lines and make sound planning decisions related to production demand and supply.
  • Prepare and lead weekly Operations meetings for assigned product groups, clearly communicating order status, priorities, risks, and required actions.
  • Identify issues affecting delivery and coordinate corrective actions with appropriate teams.
  • Continuously improve the use of MRP/ERP systems and planning tools to increase efficiency and visibility.
