Job description

Amazon Low Earth Orbit (LEO) is an initiative within Amazon that aims to revolutionize global connectivity through the development of a state-of-the-art Low Earth Orbit interconnected satellite communication constellation. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide by delivering high-speed, low latency, internet services to underserved and unserved communities and remote communities around the world. By leveraging satellite technology, we are working towards a future where everyone has access to reliable and high-quality internet connectivity regardless of their location.

The Amazon ALG for Government (ALG) Engineering organization is seeking an experienced Production Manufacturing Engineer with deep expertise in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) to drive mechanical design optimization and supplier collaboration for aerospace applications. As a member of the ALG Engineering Integrated Systems Solutions organization, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to architect, design, and implement processes and tools to manufacture at scale space-based and terrestrial product solutions.
Overview:
The Production Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with colleagues throughout ALG inter-disciplinary teams and collaborate extensively with key suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure ALG products are manufactured efficiently with the utmost quality to exceed customer expectations. This role will focus on optimizing the mechanical design and manufacturability of airframe components, mechanical assemblies, precision machined parts, and structural systems for aerospace platforms.
Core DFMA & Mechanical Design Responsibilities:
Lead DFMA initiatives for mechanical component and assembly designs including structural parts, brackets, housings, mechanisms, and precision machined components
Partner closely with mechanical design engineers and suppliers to optimize part geometry, tolerances, material selection, and assembly methods from concept through production
Conduct comprehensive design reviews to identify and resolve manufacturability issues in mechanical drawings, 3D models, GD&T callouts, and assembly sequences
Participate and lead design-for-manufacturability (DFM)/design-for-cost (DFC) reviews and provide sign-off for design release
Drive cost reduction initiatives through rigorous DFMA analysis of mechanical assemblies, part consolidation, and supplier-driven value engineering
Collaborate with suppliers to optimize manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, composite layup, welding, and precision assembly operations
Ensure the production manufacturing architecture supports all aspects of the product development lifecycle between mechanical design and production processes, including early design for manufacturability/cost, for maximized efficiency and product quality
Supplier Collaboration & Qualification:
Lead supplier selection, qualification, and onboarding for mechanical components, raw materials, and subassemblies
Work directly with suppliers to develop and implement manufacturing processes, tooling strategies, and quality control procedures
Collaborate with supplier engineering teams to resolve dimensional non-conformances, assembly issues, and process capability challenges
Support supplier development initiatives to ensure compliance with aerospace manufacturing standards (AS9100, NADCAP, AWS D17.1)
Analyze production optimization data and engage cross-functionally with suppliers to evaluate product manufacturability, build-to-build variability, and provide proactive feedback on potential improvements
Key job responsibilities
Develop and maintain manufacturing BOMs, routings in MES, and cycle time standards.
Setting up automated torque tools
Plan assembly line layouts for assembly, integration & test at various capacities and rates for both space-based and terrestrial products

Execute flight and non-flight build and test campaigns for both space-based and terrestrial products
Define material flow and manufacturing processes at various assembly levels
