Job description

SUMMARY

At Shield, we don't build ordinary products. Reporting to the Design and Estimating Manager, this role is the bridge between Design and Production, andย  produces drawings which are essential for fabrication while maintaining design intent for the client. The Production Engineer I is an entry level role, responsible for working with a team to createย  and provide unique solutions for our diverse clients and projects, including all aspects ofย  engineering with guidance and collaboration from more senior Engineering team members.ย 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS may include but are not limited to:ย 

  • Uses Solidworks at a proficient level to create high quality, accurate and timely productionย  drawings, which require some redliningย 

  • Focuses on process details by receiving, interpreting, and executing information from bothย  internal and external clientsย 

  • Communicates effectively with all internal departments and all levels of personnel withinย  the companyย 

  • Ensures components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards

  • Completes assigned projects on time and within stated budgetย 

  • Communicates with the Operations team on a consistent basis to ensure the project isย  moving through production process correctly and on timeย 

  • Works proactively with the Production team to own and fix any errors during the productionย  process up to and including installย 

  • Ensures Bills of Materials are accurate and complete, minimizing non-standard parts

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIESย 

  • Ability to perform day-to-day tasks while thinking outside of the boxย 

  • Ability to successfully execute projects on tight deadlines and to perform at high levels in aย  fast paced and ever-changing work environmentย 

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracyย 

  • Ability to visualize fabrication processes and how Engineering can help increase safety and efficiency while decreasing cost

  • Capacity to find solutions with a collaborative, positive attitudeย 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skillsย 

  • Can work independently, while still asking questions and for advice from tenured Engineering team members when neededย 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCEย 

  • Bachelorโ€™s in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or similar degree required

  • 2-3 years of experience in a Production Engineerย or similar role required

  • Functional understanding of Design Engineering principles

  • Strong knowledge and working experience with Solidworks, preferably in a workplace settingย 

  • Casework, furniture or cabinet building experience preferred

  • Experience with CNC machining, CAM software and Adobe Creative Suite is a plusย ย
