Role Overview / Purpose and Scope
The Production Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of production, inventory, and operational financial data within a manufacturing environment. This position works closely with plant operations, accounting, and finance teams to reconcile production activity, support inventory controls, and assist with reporting, month-end close, and continuous process improvement efforts.
The Production Accountant supports plant management by interpreting operational reports, identifying gaps, contributing to improvement action plans, and helping ensure timely, accurate information is available to support decision-making in a manufacturing and poultry production environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Reconcile production data across plant systems and physical locations.

  • Balance finished goods and raw material inventories on a daily basis.

  • Support weekly inventory counts, trailer reconciliations, and Bill of Lading documentation.

  • Reconcile sales transactions and internal product transfers between plants and freezer locations.

  • Reconcile copacker product receipts between shipping and procurement functions.

  • Enter and validate daily production metrics and coordinate reporting with the operations team.

  • Assist with supply inventory counts and record adjustments in applicable systems.

  • Support plant management by interpreting operational reports, identifying gaps, and contributing to improvement action plans.

  • Assist with general ledger account reviews to ensure expense accuracy and support the month-end close process.

  • Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve vendor-related issues.

  • Crosstrain to provide backup coverage for accounting team members in other functional areas.

  • Collaborate with Accounting and Financial Planning & Analysis on projects, budgeting, and audit activities.

Compensation
Compensation Range: $58,000 - $78,000
The posted compensation range for this role should reflect the minimum and maximum amount Farmer Focus in good faith expects to pay at the time of posting, based on factors such as internal equity, relevant experience, market data, and the budgeted amount available for the position.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 2-4 years of professional experience, preferably within a manufacturing or logistics environment.

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and standards.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • High attention to detail with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Energetic self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with Canopy or other Business Intelligence tools.

  • Flexibility to adapt to ad hoc schedule changes.

  • Ability to work comfortably in both office and plant environments.

New team members must be able to pass a drug, alcohol and background screening post-offer and prior to the start of their employment. The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that verification of employment eligibility be documented for all new employees by the end of their third day of work.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Travel
Work is performed on-site in both office and plant environments at the Harrisonburg, VA facilities. Regular access to plant production areas is required. The team member must be able to tolerate varying temperatures, including heat, wet, and chilled environments. Appropriate safety equipment is required, including hearing and eye protection, hair and beard nets, and any additional personal protective equipment required by task, location, or safety standards. This position requires the ability to navigate a two-story staircase and move safely throughout office, plant, and production areas.
