This is a year-round position. We will work around your school schedule.

The Mechanical Engineer Co-Op – Product Testing role reports to a senior Mechanical Test Engineer in the Product Testing Team within the John Crane Technology Group.

The goal of this position is to provide second- and third-year students majoring in "Mechanical" Engineering with a well-rounded opportunity within John Crane-Morton Grove via comprehensive hands-on training driven by strategic Product Testing initiatives, goals and projects.

In support of John Crane’s career development initiatives, Product Testing Co-Op students will also gain exposure to other departments and career opportunities within the company.
Design and develop custom test rigs that enable validation of cutting-edge and unconventional performance requirements
Configure and assemble test rigs, including sensor integration, alignment, connectivity, and plumbing, as required
Shadow experienced Mechanical Test Engineers and Technicians, with increasing responsibility and ownership as technical skills are mastered
Write, review, and edit technical reports using Microsoft Office® and Adobe Acrobat®
Coordinate activities and work with other employees on testing programs. Assist others with tasks not specifically assigned to the team
Complete basic failure analysis activities, including investigation / reporting / resolution
Create 3D CAD models using Siemens Solid Edge
Draft 2D engineering drawings, implementing basic drawing principles and GD&T
Perform basic fluid control, mechanical, and other engineering calculations as required
Along with other team members, promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement

Qualifications

Must be a 2nd or 3rd year student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering

Strong interest in hands-on mechanical design, rotating equipment, and technical problem-solving
Ability to adjust to varying priorities and projects
Competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
CAD Skills preferred (Siemens Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
