Job description

Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for maintaining quality and food safety compliance, in direct support of the operation of the business unit they are assigned to. This entails product releases, Hold processing, incident report investigations, audits, reports and key data maintenance.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct quality support for production lines.
  • Prepares, bakes and analyzes product samples during production.
  • Prepares, bakes and analyzes product samples postproduction as required
  • Enters data into quality databases and escalates non-compliant product to leadership for corrective action.
  • Conducts post-cleaning and pre-operational inspections.
  • Conducts environmental, ATP, or allergen swabbing as directed.
  • Collect and process retain or Hold samples in support of complaint or incident investigations.
  • Maintain 5S style housekeeping in labs.
  • Perform key analytical and organoleptic testing of raw/finished product as required.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records.
  • Initiate HOLD for any non-compliant product in either food safety or product quality.
  • Inform line leadership of any situations regarding product quality trends, food safety or labeling.
  • Perform metal detector investigation of reject samples brought in from the line.
  • Perform label and packaging verifications.
  • Maintain calibration tests and minor maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Follow the escalation protocol for any food safety incidents.
  • Conduct line audits as required.
  • Initiate IR (Incident Report) for any non-compliant situations.
  • Project support for QA as assigned.
  • Collect and ship samples for outside analysis.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment and out in the manufacturing operation.

The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and other office equipment.

All required PPE for plant operational safety is expected to be used.

Position requires ability to communicate and work well with peers.

Required Education and Experience

Required

  • Minimum of two (2) years previous quality assurance lab experience or two (2) years of manufacturing experience

Preferred

  • Associate degree in food science or related science

Competencies

  • Basic math skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Requires lifting of up to 30 pounds.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
