To thrive as a Product Manager, you need a strong understanding of market research, product lifecycle management, and strategic planning, often supported by a background in business, engineering, or related fields. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, product analytics platforms, and certification such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) is common. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help Product Managers align diverse teams and prioritize competing demands. These abilities are essential to successfully drive product vision, ensure effective collaboration, and deliver solutions that meet customer and business needs.

Is product manager a high paying job?

What is product management?

Product management is a business role focused on guiding the success of a product and leading the cross-functional team responsible for improving it. Product managers are involved in every stage of a product’s lifecycle, from conception and development to launch and ongoing optimization. They work closely with engineering, marketing, sales, and other departments to ensure that the product meets customer needs and business goals. Product managers also define product strategy, prioritize features, and help deliver products that provide value to users.

What is the difference between Product Management vs Business Analysis?

AspectProduct ManagementBusiness Analysis
Primary FocusDeveloping product strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle managementAnalyzing business processes, requirements, and solutions
Skills & CertificationsProduct management certifications (e.g., Pragmatic, Scrum), market researchBusiness analysis certifications (e.g., CBAP), process modeling
Work EnvironmentCross-functional teams, product development cyclesBusiness units, project teams, process improvement
Industry UsageTech, retail, manufacturing, any product-driven industryFinance, healthcare, IT, and other sectors requiring process analysis

While both roles involve understanding business needs, Product Management focuses on creating and managing products throughout their lifecycle, whereas Business Analysis concentrates on analyzing and improving business processes and requirements. Both roles are essential in product development but serve different strategic and operational purposes.

What do product managers do?

Product managers oversee the development and lifecycle of a product, coordinating between engineering, design, marketing, and other teams to ensure the product meets customer needs and business goals. They define product vision, prioritize features, and manage timelines using tools like roadmaps and analytics. Strong communication, strategic thinking, and understanding of market trends are essential skills for this role.

How does a Product Manager typically balance stakeholder expectations while keeping the development team focused on priorities?

Product Managers often serve as the bridge between stakeholders—such as customers, executives, and sales teams—and the development team. One common challenge is aligning diverse stakeholder requests with the product vision and roadmap, ensuring that the development team isn't overwhelmed by shifting priorities. Effective Product Managers use clear communication, structured prioritization frameworks (like RICE or MoSCoW), and regular check-ins to manage expectations and keep the team focused on delivering the highest-impact features. This collaborative, transparent approach helps build trust and keeps everyone aligned toward shared goals.

What are top 3 skills for a product manager?

A product manager needs strong communication skills to coordinate teams and stakeholders, analytical abilities to interpret data and make informed decisions, and technical understanding to work effectively with development teams. Additionally, skills in strategic thinking and user-centered design are highly valuable in managing product lifecycle and ensuring market fit.

Job Description

3V operates at the intersection of airline retailing, competitive intelligence, and AI-driven product innovation. We build the data and intelligence infrastructure that helps airlines, OTAs, and AI agents reason about fares, products, and competitive position in a rapidly evolving market.

We are hiring a  Director, Product Management to lead the 3V product portfolio, including PriceEye, DemandView, Iris, the PriceEye Analytics Pyramid, and a growing set of AI-driven capabilities including agentic, semantic, and adjacent emerging functionality. The Director, Product Management sets direction across the portfolio, leads the cross-functional team that delivers it, and is accountable for product outcomes that ATPCO and its shareholder carriers rely on.

This is a senior leadership role that combines product strategy with hands-on engagement across the full product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the 3V product portfolio. Define and communicate strategy across PriceEye, DemandView, Iris, the PriceEye Analytics Pyramid, and the emerging AI-driven capabilities. Balance near-term customer commitments with longer-term architectural investments.
  • Lead the cross-functional product organization. Direct the product management team and coordinate effectively across Agile delivery, engineering, QA, marketing, sales, sales support, and training to ensure aligned execution against the portfolio roadmap.
  • Establish a frictionless delivery process. Drive continuous improvement in the path from concept to production, with the goal of moving validated ideas from whiteboard to production within days. Identify and remove process, handoff, and environment friction wherever it appears.
  • Engage hands-on with the product. Use 3V products in realistic workflows, review prototypes, participate in evaluation efforts, and partner directly with engineering on technical decisions. Maintain the technical credibility needed to lead in a deeply technical product domain.
  • Maintain architectural discipline. Champion clean separation between AI-driven semantic capabilities and deterministic pricing systems in product reviews, customer conversations, and design decisions.
  • Represent 3V’s product direction within ATPCO. Work effectively with the broader ATPCO product strategy function, with the executive presence and conviction to represent 3V’s perspective when product direction, prioritization, or technology choices warrant it.
  • Uphold the quality bar. Set and maintain the standards required for customer trust in airline retailing, where reliability and accuracy define whether a product becomes critical infrastructure.
  • Develop the team. Coach PMs and product-adjacent engineers on the trade-offs that matter. Hire for both judgment and execution.
  • Communicate effectively to executive and customer audiences. Translate 3V’s product and architectural choices into clear commercial impact for ATPCO leadership, shareholder carriers, and the broader market.

Qualifications

  • Substantial product management experience, including a track record of shipping products that customers rely on
  • Demonstrated success leading a cross-functional product organization across PM, Agile delivery, engineering, QA, and go-to-market functions (marketing, sales, sales support, training)
  • Technical background in engineering, data, or ML sufficient to engage credibly in design and architecture discussions with senior engineers
  • Domain familiarity with airline retailing, GDS/NDC, offers and orders, or a comparably complex commercial data environment
  • A clear, well-reasoned point of view on the role of AI in commercial systems and a commitment to keeping that perspective current as the field evolves
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments while maintaining quality and focus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with executive and senior stakeholder audiences
  • Confidence and professionalism in representing a business unit’s perspective within a larger parent organization

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working at the boundary between AI/ML systems and deterministic transactional systems
  • Experience building or owning evaluation frameworks for AI-enabled products
  • A track record of meaningfully reducing time-from-concept-to-production in a prior organization
  • Experience partnering closely with a senior technical co-lead in a shared product/engineering leadership model

How we work

  • Lightweight, fit-for-purpose planning and documentation
  • Close collaboration across product, engineering, QA, and go-to-market functions throughout the development cycle
  • A roadmap that adapts as the AI landscape, customer needs, and competitive dynamics evolve

Salary : $193,168 - $250,000

The disclosed salary range applies uniformly across all U.S. locations and is not modified based on geographic differentials.
