Job description

Dover Precision Components is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Lead with design for product development experience for our FW Murphy Production Controls brand, located at our Rosenberg, TX facility. This role may also be based at our San Antonio, TX location for the right candidate. WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Mechanical Engineering Lead is responsible for designing, developing, and improving mechanical systems and components used in FW Murphy's industrial monitoring and control solutions. This role focuses on mechanical design with emphasis on throttle systems, combustion engine components, and integrated electromechanical products. The Mechanical Engineering Lead serves as the primary day-to-day engineering leader for mechanical design activities and provides technical directions to product design drafters. This position works closely with the Principal Design Engineer to translate product architecture into detailed designs and manufacturable solutions.
This role is expected to grow into a people leadership position responsible for managing the mechanical design and drafting team as the organization expands.
Responsibilities include:
Mechanical System Design
  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems supporting FW Murphy's industrial monitoring and control products.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D models and drawings using CAD software, particularly SolidWorks.
  • Lead development and improvement of throttle control components and other engine-related mechanical systems.
  • Conduct mechanical analysis including tolerance stack-ups, stress analysis, and design validation.
Design for Manufacturing
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to improve manufacturability and reduce production complexity.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize designs for efficient production.
  • Support engineering investigations and root cause analysis related to product performance or manufacturing issues.
Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to product design drafters.
  • Lead engineering design reviews to ensure designs meet quality, reliability, and manufacturability standards.
  • Support knowledge sharing, documentation, and engineering best practices within the team.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with electrical engineering, software engineering, product management, and manufacturing teams to ensure integrated product development.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and product validation activities.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing partners on component design and sourcing.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; Work experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years' experience in mechanical engineering and design for product development
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software, particularly SolidWorks
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles including GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacturing principles
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment

ALSO GREAT IF YOU BRING/ PREFERENCES
  • Experience with combustion engines, throttle systems, or electromechanical controls
  • Experience in industrial equipment, oil & gas, heavy equipment, or automotive environments
  • Experience leading technical projects or mentoring engineers/drafters
