Job description

This technical support role assists with the operation of compounding, extrusion, filament production, regrind, and drying equipment used in the development and production of additive manufacturing materials. The position supports the Polymer Compounding Specialist and Additive Manufacturing Manager by helping run equipment, monitor processing conditions, prepare materials, record data, and maintain orderly workflow during trials and production activities. The role requires strong attention to detail, consistent documentation, and reliable execution of hands-on technical tasks in a shop and lab environment.

Key Tasks

  • Support operation of compounding, extrusion, filament, drying, and regrind equipment

  • Prepare raw materials for processing, including staging resins, fillers, additives, and dried materials as directed

  • Monitor equipment conditions and production output, including temperature, feed rate, throughput, filament diameter, and material consistency

  • Assist the compounding specialist with running development trials and adjusting processing conditions as instructed

  • Support the Additive Manufacturing Manager by preparing filament, pellets, or related materials for printing trials and follow-on testing

  • Document operating conditions, material usage, trial observations, output measurements, and equipment issues in a clear and organized manner

Deliverables

  • Daily or trial-based production log showing equipment settings, materials used, and run conditions

  • Filament and extrusion quality records, including diameter consistency and visible defects

  • Material preparation and drying records for production and development runs

  • Regrind handling and material tracking log

  • Organized sample labeling and storage for filament, pellets, or test materials produced

  • Written record of equipment issues, processing abnormalities, and operator observations for review by senior technical staff
