As an Associate II, Research & Development Process & Product Design supporting our Research & Development team, you will be trusted to work on innovative product design, scientific analysis, and research-driven development activities onsite at our Johns Creek, Georgia facility
In this role, a typical day will include:
  • Conducting process development and scale-up studies to support new medical device product development
  • Developing hypotheses to explain observations and data based on scientific and engineering principles
  • Testing the predictions deduced from hypotheses that challenge explanations
  • Drawing conclusions and actionable next steps to further process knowledge
  • Designing and executing engineering studies (lab and pilot scale) to understand process behavior using data-driven approaches (Y = f(x))
  • Performing statistical analysis to identify sources of variation, improve yields, reduce defects, and define process specifications
  • Supporting process validation, simulation modeling, and literature reviews to improve product and process design
  • Documenting study designs, results, and process knowledge, and communicating findings to cross-functional R&D teams in compliance with GxP standards
  • Documenting research findings clearly for regulatory, quality, and technical stakeholders in compliance with GxP standards.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally within R&D to contribute to innovation and continuous product improvement.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +8 yrs; Assoc.+4 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • Sponsorship/Relocation: No

Preferred
  • Background in Physics or Chemistry
  • Demonstrated ability to develop hypotheses based on scientific or engineering principles and validate them through structured experimentation.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity with a proactive, investigative mindset inclined to ask questions, explore root causes, and deepen process understanding.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present findings clearly across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in FDA regulated industry, specifically medical devices or contact lenses.
  • Experience in statistical analysis using JMP or Minitab and / or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Experience writing, executing and analyzing Engineering Studies.

This position can be offered at Associate II or Senior Associate depending on the candidate's experience and qualification.
