DESIGN ENGINEER - JOB #1145

Position: Design Engineer

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Status: Full-time, Salary, Exempt

Pay Range: $65,000 - 90,000 Annually.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Design Engineer works within the Engineering departmentโ€™s Design Group to design aircraft components, subsystems, and systems.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position works with other engineering groups, vendors, Production, and Quality to support major design projects, certification programs, and current production.

BASIC WORKER FUNCTION

Develop aircraft designs using 3D models, assemblies, detailed engineering drawings, engineering calculations, design analyses, and tolerance stack-ups.

Coordinate large design projects and support vendor design activities, certification efforts, and production troubleshooting.

Apply mechanical design principles, materials knowledge, GD amp;T, manufacturing processes, and applicable FAA requirements to design and validate aircraft components and systems.

Maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision control while meeting project timelines, budgets, and requirements.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

  • Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings for aircraft components, subsystems, and systems.

  • Perform engineering calculations, design analyses, and tolerance stack-ups to validate designs.

  • Coordinate design activities for major projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and requirements are met.

  • Support certification efforts, including preparing documentation, assisting with testing, and ensuring compliance with FAA regulations.

  • Collaborate with vendors on design, manufacturability, and quality requirements for purchased components.

  • Provide engineering support to production, troubleshooting design issues and developing corrective actions.

  • Participate in design reviews, configuration management activities, and engineering change processes.

  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and revision control in accordance with company procedures.

  • Observes all safety regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field required. A masterโ€™s degree in a related field may substitute for up to two years of required experience.

  • 0โ€“3 years of engineering design experience preferred (entry-level acceptable with strong project or internship experience).

  • Experience with 3D CAD software required (SolidWorks preferred).

  • Experience in aerospace design, manufacturing, or FAA certification processes a plus.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, GD amp;T, and manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Working knowledge of FAA regulations and certification processes (aerospace experience preferred but not required).

  • Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, and Vendors.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on complex design projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer workstation for extended periods.

  • Ability to walk through production areas, climb stairs, and occasionally access aircraft or mock-ups for inspections.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to visually inspect engineering drawings, models, and physical parts.
