Purchasing Agent
Hughes Brothers Construction is now hiring! We are a heavy civil contractor specializing in large site infrastructure, underground utilities and roadway construction throughout Central Florida. The Purchasing Agent supports the Purchasing Manager in executing the day-to-day procurement activities for HBC’s newly established purchasing department. This is a hands-on, non-supervisory role responsible for material procurement, vendor coordination and communication, and purchasing documentation for active projects.  
Responsibilities:
  • Procure materials, equipment, rentals, and services for civil construction projects under the direction of the Purchasing Manager.
  • Adhere to defined purchasing policies and procedures while actively contributing to the development and refinement of standardized workflows.
  • Issue and track purchase orders.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with Estimating, Project Managers, Superintendents, Accounting and vendors to ensure proper alignment of purchasing activities.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, lead times, and quantities.
  • Support vendor negotiations to obtain pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
  • Assist with job cost tracking and project close-out documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of all purchasing activities.
  • Assist with purchasing audits and internal reviews as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, supply chain, or relevant field preferred
  • Working knowledge of utilities, earthwork, and civil construction materials
  • Experience with HCSS and Foundation, or similar ERP systems
  • 3+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in civil, heavy, or site construction preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to adapt to evolving systems and procedures
  • Ability to work well with individually or as a member of a team
