Job description

The Food Purchasing Assistant manages the procurement of food products, ensuring quality, proper inventory levels, and cost-effective purchasing. Supports purchasing operations by managing vendor relationships, processing purchase orders, tracking deliveries, and monitoring inventory levels to ensure cost-effective purchasing.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Other responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Create, track, and process purchase orders while updating order data, including invoices and delivery dates.
  • Maintains accurate records, assessing stock levels, and reducing spoilage.
  • Communicates with suppliers regarding availability, pricing, and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinates incoming shipments and sometimes routing deliveries.
  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with potential vendors for the best prices and quality.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure necessary products are in stock, preventing shortages.
  • Maintain accurate supplier/product databases and prepare reports on purchases and costs.
  • Verify, receive, and inspect incoming deliveries against purchase orders.
  • Performs other duties associated with the position that are reasonably assigned to support the overall needs of the business".
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field like business or supply chain management preferred
  • 2+ years in purchasing, retail, or food industry logistics preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel) and ERP/buying systems.
  • Strong analytical ability, negotiation skills, and ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced work.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Able to stand for an extended period and ability to lift 50 lbs.
