What does a procurement head do?

A Procurement Head is responsible for overseeing an organization's purchasing activities and strategies. This role involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, ensuring cost-effective buying, and maintaining quality standards. The Procurement Head works closely with other departments to align procurement with business goals and often leads a team of procurement professionals. They also monitor market trends, assess risks, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and company policies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a procurement head?

To thrive as a Procurement Head, you need expertise in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, and a relevant degree such as supply chain management or business administration. Leadership, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills that enable success in managing teams and stakeholders. These abilities ensure efficient cost management, risk mitigation, and alignment of procurement strategies with organizational goals.
