Job description

Job Description:

Our Opportunity

At Chewy, we strive to become the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents and our partners, including veterinarians and service providers. Our success is measured by the happiness of the people and pets we serve, not simply by the products we deliver. That's why we continuously challenge ourselves to think outside the box and create exceptional experiences for our customers and partners.

We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented Associate Director of Transportation Procurement to lead a procurement function encompassing multiple categories, supplier portfolios, or sourcing teams. This leader will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies that drive enterprise value through cost optimization, supplier performance, risk mitigation, and operational excellence.

In this role, you will oversee a team of procurement professionals while influencing cross-functional business leaders, shaping long-term sourcing strategies, and driving procurement initiatives that support Chewy's continued growth. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, category management, and talent development, along with a proven ability to lead complex procurement programs and deliver measurable business outcomes.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and develop a team of procurement professionals, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and talent development.

  • Develop and execute multi-year category and sourcing strategies, managing a pipeline of contracts and overseeing end-to-end sourcing initiatives for large, complex, and high-visibility engagements.

  • Direct complex sourcing activities and strategic procurement initiatives, applying strong commercial, operational, and financial acumen to drive business outcomes.

  • Provide leadership and guidance on contract strategy, commercial negotiations, supplier management, and procurement best practices across the organization.

  • Develop supplier segmentation frameworks and governance models to optimize supplier performance, innovation, risk management, and business continuity.

  • Establish and execute negotiation strategies for major supplier agreements, driving outcomes across pricing, commercial terms, service levels, and risk mitigation.

  • Partner closely with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, annual planning, and long-range cost management initiatives, incorporating market trends, supplier pricing cycles, and demand signals.

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives involving process transformation, technology implementation, organizational change, and procurement capability development.

  • Influence senior stakeholders through clear, data-driven insights, aligning sourcing strategies, supplier decisions, and procurement priorities with business objectives.

  • Translate complex market, financial, and supplier data into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.

  • Foster long-term strategic relationships with suppliers and internal business partners to drive value creation, innovation, and operational excellence.

  • Oversee supplier relationship management programs, including executive business reviews, performance scorecards, service-level monitoring, and corrective action plans.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior procurement and business leaders, offering data-backed recommendations and identifying areas for improvement.

  • Travel domestically as needed.

What You'll Need

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, category management, procurement, or supply chain leadership.

  • 3+ years of people leadership experience managing and developing procurement professionals.

  • Proven success in developing and executing multi-category sourcing strategies that deliver measurable business value.

  • Extensive experience leading complex supplier negotiations, contract development, and supplier performance management programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive alignment across multiple business functions.

  • Strong financial acumen with experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, cost modeling, and long-term spend management initiatives.

  • Experience leading large-scale RFx events, supplier transitions, and strategic sourcing programs.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, including experience leveraging market intelligence and predictive cost analysis.

  • Exceptional communication, executive presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Bonus

  • Master’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.

  • Professional certifications such as CPSM, CIPS, CPM, or equivalent.

  • Experience leading procurement organizations in high-growth, large-scale, or e-commerce environments.

  • Deep expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, category strategy development, and procurement transformation.
