Compensation
At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $106,073 - $140,549.6. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Facilities and Project Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our process engineering function. As a Process Engineer III, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.
The position leads ongoing improvement engineering tasks and capital improvement projects as assigned by the Manager-Process Engineering. The position will work with Operations, Quality, Facilities and Maintenance to identify, measure, analyze, improve and control performance of the feeder plant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform project engineering on process systems as assigned by the Manager-Process Engineering. This may include cleaning-phosphating-powder paint systems, electroplating, liquid painting, vacuum systems, vacuum brazing, waste treatment, material handling and related automation. Activities are typically related to engineering/design/construction of new processes or improvements to manufacturing operations at S&C Electric's Chicago Headquarters. Travel to other manufacturing locations will sometimes be required.
  • Ongoing engineering tasks will include preparation of design criteria, feasibility assessments, treatability and pilot trials, functional description and sequences of operations, calculations, equipment selection, drawings, sketches/layouts and specifications. Team Member will be expected to author process quality specifications, define process limits, analyze failures and process improvements and complete production acceptance/qualification of materials.
  • Capital project engineering tasks will include preparation of cost estimates, schedules, purchase documents, drawing reviews, handling of drawings and submittals and field work. Team Member will be expected to complete field survey work necessary to validate layouts/plans prior to, during and after construction and/or rearrangement, including transcription of existing building plans into CAD based drawings. Project management tasks will include design, construction, commissioning, establishment of preventative and predictive maintenance processes, requiring interface with maintenance and production. the Team member will be required to coordinate work with outside contractors and engineers on assigned projects as well as in-house maintenance. Exercising of sound judgement and decision making for assigned responsibilities is expected.

What you'll Need To Succeed:
Job Requirements (To select this job at a minimum you must have the following):
  • 5-10 years relevant and progressive experience in Quality, Design, Operations, Process, Maintenance or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or other relevant Engineering.
  • Ability to take ownership and work independently within a collaborative setting work with customers to resolve technical issues, identify root cause, continually improve under the umbrella of safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  • Budget & Cost estimating experience for capital projects exceeding $500,000.
  • Ability to prepare calculations, P&IDs, specifications, functional descriptions, equipment schedules, physicals/isometrics and interpret wiring diagrams/controls.
  • Familiarity with process controls, automation, material handling system assignments.
  • Experience with commissioning manufacturing equipment and system, startup and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent MS and Power Point Skills
  • Knowledge of and application of ISO-9001 Quality Management System (QMS) practices.
  • Practiced application of systematic problem-solving systems, e.g. DMAIC, RCA, 5-Why, A3, 8D etc.
  • Unit operations and support system assessment-implementation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic bookkeeping/project accounting skills

Preferred:
  • Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab, R, SPSS etc.
  • Knowledge of related industry codes and standards-ACS, AIChE, ASME, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, UL, Chicago Code .

  • Standing: Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position for hours at a time throughout the work day
  • Walking: Frequently walking throughout the facility
  • Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects
  • Pushing: Infrequent pushing of objects
