How much do process engineering jobs pay per year?
What is process engineering?
What is the difference between Process Engineering vs Chemical Engineering?
| Aspect | Process Engineering | Chemical Engineering |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Bachelor's in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering; often certifications like Six Sigma | Bachelor's or higher in Chemical Engineering; professional engineer (PE) license may be preferred |
| Work Environment | Manufacturing plants, process facilities, industrial settings | Research labs, chemical plants, design offices |
| Industry Usage | Focuses on optimizing manufacturing processes and production efficiency | Designs chemical processes, develops new chemicals, and research |
Process Engineering primarily concentrates on improving and maintaining manufacturing processes within industrial settings, while Chemical Engineering involves designing chemical processes and developing new chemical products. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and often overlap in industry applications, but their core focus areas differ.

Job description
Lutron is seeking a Process Engineer to join our manufacturing team, supporting Tanury—a Lutron company—at our Lincoln, Rhode Island facility. In this role, you will help advance manufacturing excellence by improving production and supply chain processes through handson engagement, strong process discipline, and datadriven problem solving.
You will partner closely with Production, Quality, and Operations teams on the manufacturing floor to identify improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions that enhance quality, efficiency, and process stability. You will interact with facility leadership to scope and prioritize process improvement projects. You will be responsible for collecting and analyzing process and quality data and translating findings into clear, actionable insights that support daily operational decisions.
You will develop and optimize processes, establish effective process controls, and lead rootcause analysis and corrective actions using structured, datadriven methodologies. In this role, you will also lead crossfunctional efforts and serve as a trusted technical partner across the organization, often working in partnership with other Lutron manufacturing, engineering and operations teams.
This position offers meaningful ownership, high visibility, and the opportunity to work across a wide range of products and technologies, with longterm growth potential within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing processes for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with technical and quality specifications
- Establishing Process Controls to ensure adequate capability.
- Monitoring and optimizing process performance with controls and metrics.
- Troubleshooting process issues and identifying root causes using data-driven methodologies such as DOE, SPC, or Six Sigma tools.
- Leading and collaborating with cross functional teams such as Quality and Production teams to resolve nonconformances and implementing corrective actions.
- Developing and maintaining process documentation, including work instructions, control plans, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Supporting cost reduction and yield improvement initiatives while maintaining product integrity and reliability.
- Creating SOPs and training production operators and technicians on process standards.
Qualifications
