Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking motivated individuals to join our Vernon Hills Process Engineering team. As a Senior Process Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and implementing innovative process solutions for a wide range of projects, from small-scale to large-scale initiatives. You’ll work closely with both our pre-projects and projects teams to deliver industry-leading solutions to our extensive customer base.

The position is based in Vernon Hills, IL.
You will be travelling up to 35% of your time.
Tetra Pak is considering applicants (Internal or External) who require International relocation to the United States.

What you will do

As a Senor Process Engineer A you will:

  • Support projects from conceptual development phase (sales) through implementation to start of commercial operation.
  • Work in a multi-project environment where the role adapts to the needs of each individual project.
  • Act with responsibility for technical solution and quality aspects of project performance, while securing project management buy in and being aligned with a focus on customer needs and satisfaction.
  • Work with customers and colleagues in an international environment. Collaborate with resources through out the entire organization.
  • Conduct / support quotation development in conjunction with the pre-project manager and account managers for systems/modules.
  • Estimate equipment costs. Source and price equipment/services in coordination with the pre-project manager.
  • Develop understanding of what is required for project engineering commercial food processing production facilities. Including the use of problem solving, thermodynamics, flow dynamics, mass balance, process timing schedule, block flow diagrams, P&IDs, layouts, and utility consumption estimates.
  • Develop a strong understanding of automation control applications, instrumentation applications, & start-up/commissioning of systems
  • Develop technical and "soft" problem solving skills.
  • Collect information & data for performance testing and trouble shooting.
  • Develop knowledge on regulatory compliance in the dairy industry including USDA, 3A, and the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance.

We believe you have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Science Engineering, or Bioproducts Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in Food and Beverage. Experience in dairy is considered a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong knowledge in Process Design.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional people skills, with the ability to communicate and present effectively.
  • Ability to plan, delegate, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Quality-focused with a commitment to delivering high standards.

Pay Equity

Tetra Pak provides the following compensation range that in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Ranges are determined by role, level and location. Within the range, individual pay is defined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.


This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule. The estimate displayed is just one component of Tetra Pak's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include annual performance bonus, competitive benefits, and work-related allowances.

  • Annual Base Salary Range (ABS): $103,800.00 USD – $133,300.00 USD
  • Short-term Incentive/Bonus (Variable Pay): Eligible to performance incentive of 10% of ABS
