About Us

Unified Building Group is a nationally licensed construction firm serving telecommunications, energy, education, commercial real estate, HVAC, and critical infrastructure. Our core services—General Contracting, Construction Services, Design-Build, Facilities Maintenance, and Building Systems—go far beyond the blueprint. We unite owners, stakeholders, project management, design, engineering, construction, and maintenance under one resourceful team to craft enduring structures and thriving spaces. At Unified, we don’t just build; we create healthy environments that inspire innovation and strengthen communities. Driven by client satisfaction, we prioritize transparency, accountability, on-time delivery, trusted support, superior craftsmanship, safety, and sustainable practices.

Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Project Engineer / Inventory Manager to support our project delivery team and oversee warehouse operations in Champaign, IL. This hybrid role is split between managing the full lifecycle of inventory—from product acceptance to project-site offloading—and providing critical administrative support for nationwide construction projects. You will act as a key support role in project planning and implementation while ensuring that materials, tools, and equipment are tracked and delivered with precision. We need a proactive professional who can coordinate complex project loads, manage technical documentation, and facilitate seamless communication between stakeholders and field operations.

  • Reports to: Construction Management Team
Responsibilities

Inventory Management & Logistics

  • Strategic Control: Oversee and optimize inventory levels for national telecommunications and energy projects to ensure material availability without excess surplus.
  • Database Accuracy: Utilize inventory management software (e.g., Procore) to maintain a 100% accurate, real‑time database of all stock, tools, and heavy equipment.
  • On-Load/Off-Load Coordination: Manage the logistics of “on‑loading” materials for outgoing shipments and the “off‑loading” of returning equipment, reconciling physical counts with digital records.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement Method of Procedure (MOP) protocols for handling sensitive equipment and perform rigorous QA inspections on all incoming and outgoing goods.
  • Project Planning: Assist in developing project plans, timelines, and work breakdown structures, including task assignments and deadlines.
  • Communication & Coordination: Facilitate communication between project team members, clients, and vendors through meetings, emails, and regular status updates.
  • Document Control: Maintain meticulous project documentation, including contracts, drawings, specifications, and change orders, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Progress Tracking: Oversee RFIs, submittals, and schedule updates while tracking progress against plans to highlight potential issues on critical tasks.
    • Site Engagement: Travel to sites to meet with owners, inspectors, or subcontractors to discuss project details and perform QA/QC inspections.
    • Leadership Reporting: Prepare and present periodic reports to leadership regarding stock utilization trends, expense tracking, and warehouse KPIs.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in construction project administration, site supervision, or inventory management.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management software (Procore preferred), Google Spaces, and CRM systems.
  • Expertise: Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, safety regulations, and Quality Control (QC/QA) processes.
  • Communication: Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills to coordinate between field crews and C‑suite executives.
  • Travel/Physical: Ability to travel extensively (up to 70%) for site visits and perform physical duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs and operating warehouse machinery.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • 401(k), Health insurance, and Health savings account.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
  • Join a dynamic and supportive team committed to excellence in construction.
