Controls Engineer

The primary purpose of this position is responsible for installing, maintaining, programming, and improving the efficiency and reliability of the facility control systems. This position is also responsible for improving existing processes, introducing new processes and support of plant operations.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, run, test and upgrade controls systems and processes.
  • Provide technical expertise in support of capital projects, process evaluation, and project modifications.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards for instrumentation & controls.
  • Continuously evaluate, recommend and implement productivity improvements to company processes.
  • Troubleshoot plant production with regard to controls system functionality.
  • Assist process technology and production teams in the development and programming of control sequences for all system-controlled processes.
  • Implement changes to the process control system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Make improvements to control systems as required to improve reliability.
  • Improve productivity of existing chemical processes through process improvement
  • Provide control system support for large capital projects.
  • Maintain existing control systems including keeping software current and ensuring systems are following established preventative maintenance plans.
  • Support Regulatory, Health, and Safety.
  • Uphold Hydrite's Standard of Excellence through a continuous commitment to maintain quality facilities and provide quality products and services to internal and external customers
  • Perform all duties outlined in relevant SOPs and all other duties to be assigned.
  • Participate in RCRA, regulatory, health & safety and process training activities as required. Review changes/additions with your supervisor. Must be RCRA compliant.
  • Manage the installation of new instrumented systems and maintenance as a back up to the EI&C Technician
  • Maintain instrumentation systems and ensure systems are following established preventative maintenance plans as a back up to the EI&C Technician
  • Interface with customers.
  • Train operators on instrumentation and controls.
  • Work with other staff members to maintain workload balances. Provide back-up support as necessary.
  • Support effective communication with all Hydrite departments where responsibilities overlap to ensure success of the branch team.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • This position reports to the Manager

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering required with experience in analyzing chemical processes.
  • Must have 5 plus years of industry experience in factory automation and PLC programming.
  • DCS configuration, PLC programming, HMI programming, Process Networks, Instrument Sizing, Instrument Specifications.
  • Must have good supervisory skills.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Power Point, Word, and Excel required
  • Must have communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to read, write, and speak English.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to stand for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 50 feet on occasion.
  • Able to perform manual dexterity tasks.
  • Due to safety concerns, the wearing of contact lenses is prohibited.
  • Ability to wear a respirator for up to 4 hours a day without restrictions. Please refer to the SOP for facial hair guidelines.
  • Ability to meet DOT vision requirements.
