MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Process Control Engineer will report directly to the Process Control Sr. Manager. This position serves as a point position for all facets of day-to-day process control support in an area of the facility. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities and qualifications:

JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

         Support daily and breakdown maintenance activities, especially those related to troubleshooting of DCS, QCS, and PLC systems with their associated I/O systems, HMI displays, and field devices.

         Provide process control engineering and configuration resources for capital projects.

         Support of process control systems after hours and on rotating on call duty.

         Both review and create the following types of documentation for new and existing systems: loop sheets and logic.

         Monitor control system reliability and process variability, and take steps to eliminate any shortcomings.

         Will lead software upgrades to the mill DCS systems.

         Serve as process control advocate working with corporate and local IT groups.

         Role models safe behavior and practices, participates in safety activities.

         Develops and leads preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of network infrastructure that supports the mills DCS hardware and software applications to insure a high level of performance, security, and reliability.

         Assesses overall system health continually through diagnostics and other system tools.

         Reviews spare parts to ensure an adequate number of compatible parts are maintained.

         Develops and documents maintenance/troubleshooting procedures.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

         Configuration and troubleshooting experience with DCS and PLC systems, including their connected HMI displays (Honeywell Experion and TDC3000 DCS, ABB QCS, and Control Logix PLC experience are beneficial)

         Ability to create and review DCS, QCS, and PLC documentation, including P&IDs, loop sheets and logic diagrams

         Ability to support the network and computer systems connected to automatic control systems

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

         BS/BA degree in Computer Science or Engineering, related field or equivalent manufacturing experience

         8+ years experience in an industrial maintenance organization. Paper industry experience preferred.

         Thorough knowledge of DCS and PLC concepts and application

         Demonstrated leadership

         Demonstrated ability to create and sustain change

         Demonstrated ability to engage a work force

         Strong interpersonal skills

         Proactive problem solver

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

         General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; supporting a 24/7 operations that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
