This position will help reduce manual processes, improve data accessibility and quality, and strengthen the systems that support organizational reporting, analytics, operations, and decision-making.

Working under the direction of the Digital Solutions Group Leader and closely with the Database Administrator, the Automation Engineer will collaborate with technical, operational, and analytical teams throughout the District.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Create and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, automation scripts, and data‑transformation processes.
  • Work with employees and stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and automate manual business processes.
  • Support data quality, validation, governance, monitoring, cybersecurity, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Assist with testing, deployment, documentation, user support, training, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Research emerging automation, integration, cloud, and data‑engineering technologies.
  • Participate in strategic digital‑services initiatives that strengthen the District's long‑term capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems, software engineering, data engineering, business analytics, or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of professional experience in data integration, automation, systems development, scripting, database management, or related technical work.
  • Experience developing automated workflows, extracting data through APIs, or building ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience working with relational databases, SQL, scripting languages, cloud platforms, or automation technologies.
Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate will bring experience or familiarity in several of the following areas:

  • Relational databases and SQL
  • APIs and system integrations
  • Data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes
  • Python, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages
  • Microsoft Power Platform or comparable low-code/no-code platforms
  • Data validation, quality, governance, and cybersecurity
  • Troubleshooting automation and data-processing systems
  • Translating business needs into practical, scalable technical solutions
  • Communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Experience working in utilities, infrastructure operations, government, public-sector organizations, or operational-technology environments is preferred.
