Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Novelis Uhrichsville, OH team is seeking an Automation Engineer. The person in this role will report to Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, and Automation (EMRA) Leader. The ideal candidate will be responsible for handling all aspects of the automation function, such as design, maintenance, construction, and installation of equipment modifications. With the opportunity to work with every type of machinery that you can imagine, you will develop effective solutions to problems arising with the plant equipment.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide a strong understanding of process, instrumentation, PLC controls, SCADA and safety systems.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting encounters that center around meeting production needs in the face of tight, frequently revised schedules and/or equipment failures, the start-up of new equipment, development of new products and processes.
  • Optimize equipment utilization and efficiency by applying the latest development in machine procedures, diagnostic equipment, and more reliable electrical components.
  • Develop practical solutions to repetitive equipment failure problems that contribute to the effectiveness of the maintenance effort.
  • Contribute engineering expertise to project work and selection of replacement or new equipment to help ensure consistency and standardization of components and ease of maintenance.
  • Ensure all equipment recommended, repaired, or modified meets all company and governmental safety and health rules and regulations to help ensure safety and wellbeing of employees.
  • Assist in the development of engineering or maintenance procedures and repair work to ensure they are safe, effective, and efficient. Expand, continually, knowledge of engineering and maintenance principals and practice.
  • Maintain all plant OT network hardware and software
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, automation or equivalent engineering degree or 10 yrs of practicing automation or controls engineering in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
  • Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship
  • Ability to organize and prioritize responsibility; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Must also possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives
  • Good computer skills and experience with AutoCAD and or AutoCAD electrical
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office software, including but not limited to, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and machine safety
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation PLC Controls
  • Vendor and contractor management experience
  • Data analysis skills a plus

Location Profile
Opened in 1985 the Uhrichsville facility produces flat rolled aluminum coil. The Recycling mill prepares scrap aluminum that is used in the rolling mill to create rolled aluminum coils to a desired gauge. Anneals temper the aluminum then it is leveled and sized to customer specification. Employing more than 400 people the facility produces aluminum sheet for building and construction automotive distribution transportation and consumer durable applications.
